How does this work? Can we actually sign him now or do we have to wait? Do we sign a contract with a start date of 2025?
It would be interesting to know the exact legal terms, but AFAIK it's a normal transfer between us and Hajduk with a start date in 2025 instead of 2023 due to the FIFA rules for non-EU or EEA countries. Happy to be corrected though.

Although I’m not 100% sure, that’s how I understand it to be too.

I had no issue with us signing Johnson, but I can't help wondering whether the same money would have been better spent on 3-4 younger players...or someone older and more proven as a more immediate replacement for Kane (while Veliz is given time to settle & develop)
Younger then Johnson? He is 22 and still has the chance to develop as well as being able to play now. I can’t claim to know much about the academy players other then what I read online but the under 21’s have started the league season well. Jamie Donley who is coming through the academy has 6 assists in 4 games and Jude Soonsup-Bell who they signed from Chelsea’s academy in January and Will Lankshear who they signed last year from Sheffield United have 4 and 3 goals so far in the 4 games. Plus you’ve got Scarlett so they appear to have at least 4 promising young players to go along with Veliz so I’m not sure they needed to sign more.

Vuskovic makes perfect sense, as we've already signed Romero & VDV for the starting CB spots. I know some people had hoped we'd sign VDV as back-up and Tapsoba on top, but that simply wasn't realistic for a club that's not in Europe or expected to challenge for a league title.

Completely agree they would never have signed Tapsoba. I know after one of the pre season friendlies (think either Shakhtar or Barcelona) Ange said he wanted to sign another centre back but realistically it was never going to be someone as good as Tapsoba. Hoping the reason they didn’t is that Ange saw some of the young defenders like Phillips or Dorrington and decided they are good enough to be cover for Romero and VDV for 4 months and could use the Sanchez money in January if needed to get a back up.

Yes, younger and much cheaper than Johnson - like we did with Veliz & Phillips (and with Dele, Lennon, Bale etc in the past), and are hopefully about to do with Vuskovic.

I don't mean 3-4 younger players in the same position / style as Johnson. 3-4 young additions to the squad.

Perhaps Johnson is more ready to make a big impact in the PL than I think though...

Exciting to think that by the time he signs, we may have a 20yr old, more experienced Phillips and an 18yr old Vusković as a future CB partnership for years to come.

Don’t forget Dorrington too. IMO he’s just as good a prospect as Phillips.

And Archie Chaplin in the year below seems pretty highly rated as well.
Yeah he looks quality and seems like a leader in that current U18 side. Hopefully Dorrington and Phillips progress quickly into the first team squad, so he can step up to the U21’s ASAP

Don’t think it’s dead by any account. Seems fairly complicated and there likely isn’t a time crunch.

"To see that project was crucial for Luka Vuskovic. He told Hajduk not to negotiate with any other club, he only wanted to go to #Tottenham"

"From what I’m hearing it [Medicals] will take place next week very soon, Vuskovic will complete medical tests as a new Tottenham player"

"It won’t be a small fee, it will be an important fee for a 16-year-old boy, it won’t be £1m or £2m it will be way more than this"

@FabrizioRomano

medical this week according to Romano

I am seriously worried this deal goes dead with Perisic's ACL injury.
Fingers crossed I am wrong though.
Doesn't Perisic's contract expire at the end of this season?

He would be on high wages now that Hadjuk Split couldn't afford anyway.

I can't see how the Vuskovic deal being dependant on Perisic.

Has there been any reports that the deal has Perisic involved anyway?

He wouldn't have gone until the end of the season anyway when he's out of contract so why would this have any affect on a transfer of a 16 year old CB?
