Just booked the hotel and Eurostar tickets (bring your own beers) still waiting for the tickets though. Anyone going? We're going on the Wednesday and coming back Sunday anyone been to Lyon before and know any good bars things to do?

I know it's a bit early, but I'm bored.

Yeah I'm going and really looking forward to it. Not sure if I'll qualify for a ticket yet, but fingers crossed.
Having read a few guide books, and looked online, I discovered the entire city is a World Heritage site, has some excellent Roman remains, if that's your thing, and a nice old town bordered by two rivers. It has a population of around half a million, and seems like a bustling, cool city. It's also known for being France's gastro capital. Haven't looked too much into bars yet, as I like to keep things semi-spontaneous when travelling abroad, and keep away from the herd to some extent, but there appear to be several Irish pubs, that show football, if you either want to aim for or keep away from them.
Really looking forward to this trip. Just hope I can get a ticket.

I've been there a few times - lovely city. I was never there for very long, but there's Roman ruins and a glorious city centre to enjoy, enough to eat up a long weekend. It's France's food capital so there are some great restaurants, cheese shops, chocolatiers etc. Hope you get to see Spurs win too.

Apologies for the slight change of subject, but I have a question for the home game vs Lyon, I'm probably going to be going (which I cannot fucking wait for) is it a catergory C game? Sorry for gatecrashing the thread to ask this but didn't wanna start a whole new thread to ask a quick question. cheers.

Yep I am going. Flights and hotel booked. My guvnor who is half French said the food is great, which is a bonus as I am a fat bar steward. He did say it does get damm cold there though. Haven't got a match ticket but shouldn't be too difficult I reckon.

off topic..ish.

Is there a city anywhere in the world where there isn't an pseudo Irish Bar - selling warm Guinness and slathered in green felt leprechaun hats ?

Looked for a hotel, one said "close to Stade de Gerland" - great! Booked it. Admittedly it was close, but there was a bloody river in between, and quite a distance to a bridge.

Booked my flights, landing at 1425. Great time to arrive seeing as the match is at 2100 local time I thought. Dang, it's at 1800.

Gonna be good though. Just hoping I can get myself an away ticket somehow.

Would absolutely love to go, however I doubt my paltry loyalty point total will get me anywhere near close enough for this one. :(

OS says it's a Cat C on the ticket info page IIRC.

£150 for the train and about 80 euros a night for the hotel.

Is that with EuroStar & then a separate train to Lyon? Can I ask what website you used to book?

Thomas Cook do a package for £299 but I want to try & get flight & accommodation under £200!
