I'm a Lillywhite member and have accommodation and flights for myself and a fellow yid in Bristol booked up for Lyon away. I see they've only allocated us 2,000 tickets and I wonder whether people think those will all be snapped up by season ticket holders or if we've got a chance as Lillywhite members. I've got about 150 points, and my mate has close to zero. I've not been to a Europa League away game this season, although I've been to six or seven in the past, so don't know what sort of numbers we've been taking away with us. What do you reckon?

Im hearing that there will be plenty of spare tickets in the home end as lyon rarely sellout. Also these are half the price of away tickets so as a result I expect alot of spurs in the home end

Yes, I did look up their average attendances, and for European games they're generally about 10,000 below capacity. How easy it is to buy tickets in the home section from this country, or whether they'd sell them on the gate I don't know, however.

Pretty sure our allocation will all go to ST holders, I'd imagine we'll be oversubscribed and members won't even get a chance to apply

I don't understand why Tottenham don't ask for more tickets in cases like this. Lyon's average is 10,000 below capacity, we're likely to be oversubscribed. Our players would appreciate the extra support and Lyon wouldn't turn down the cash from the extra sales. It would make sense all round and 2,000 is a bit of a skinny allocation in a stadium that holds 42,000.

I remember when we played in Seville in the quarter-final. I applied for members tickets, not expecting to get them, then two season ticket holders applied on my behalf, then a friend amazingly managed to pull in two tickets in the home end through his company's Madrid office. Then Spurs requested additional tickets and got them. We ended up with something like an allocation of 6,000 and my friend and suddenly had six tickets! Managed to pass them on to other ticketless Spurs fans in the pub beforehand though, so they didn't go unused.

It will be a policing issue as much as anything. They won't allocate us more tickets as they would need more police

Amazing, therefore, in the Sevilla example I've cited above, that they gave us 4,000 to start with, then increased it by I think another 1,000, despite one of the largest religious festivals in Europe being underway in Seville on the day of the match, and a million people pouring into the city.

It was an incredible trip though, made all the more so by getting a ticket, which isn't always the case with European away trips for me. If you're interested, you can read about it here:

If they don't allocate us more tickets though, they'll be more Spurs fans in the home end would have thought that would be more of an issue

Well exactly. And because it's usually necessary to book travel well before knowing whether you'll qualify for a ticket, I doubt I'll be the only in the boat of being in Lyon without a ticket.

I wonder whether Lyon will have the sense to have a 'neutral' section, as they do at Fulham, which would enable them to sell tickets to we Spurs stragglers who end up over there but ticketless on the day of the game?

If anyone's been to the Stade Gerland before and has any views on this, I'd be really keen to hear what you reckon.

I've emailed the ticket office, firstly to ask if they anticipate demand outstripping supply, and secondly asking that they consider requesting more tickets from Lyon. I've been told they're in negotiations but it won't necessarily result in more tickets. If anyone else with flights booked but uncertainty over getting a ticket wanted to email and stress the need for a bigger allocation, bearing in mind that Lyon are regularly 10-12,000 below capacity for their games, I'm sure it wouldn't do any harm.

What did the ticket office say about the demand on tickets? I'd be interested to know as me and a mate have flights and hotel booked and application is in with 200 or so points.

Have also just emailed the ticket office asking if the allocation can be increased. Could be worthwhile letting them know how many want tickets and see if they can put some pressure on Lyon.

They said there would ne no point speculating as at this stage it would be pure guesswork.

Danielneeds felt the need to rate this post as "old" for some reason. Clearly, as the match happened five years ago, it is by its very nature old, but I don't really see the need to point that out. I think it's entirely relevant in the context of the Lyon game next month.
Still, I really don't understand the new generation and their desperately short attention span and obsession with all things immediate, clearly.
