Major reasons why Paulinho could not adapt to the Premier League

I feel the path he has taken with his latest move says everything about him as a player.

Instead of criticising him, we should count our blessings. If he had not moved to China, we would not have recouped £10M. Hope Paulinho rediscovered his form there and goes on to better things.

I wasn't criticizing just giving my opinion.

I hope he does as well but I don't think he'll ever return to the EPL.

He is a bit of a bottler in the challenge department and that never goes down well in the EPL. Did not seem particularly fit either.

In his first season he actually played well enough to have some on here calling him the best midfielder in the EPL.
He's the best midfielder in Spurs's 'Letdown 11', with Rebrov and Soldado upfront banging in the, er, shots.

It was the fans who played a big part in Paulinho not succeeding.

Under AVB he did OK and scored a few goals.

He certainly wasn't the greatest player, but he was certainly better than Lamela et al.

The problem came with the majority of Spurs fans thinking he was an attacking midfielder, the Brazilian Frank Lampard etc.

How anybody came up with that comparison having seen him play is completely beyond me.

He was fantastic in a deeper role away at Newcastle last season and used better (particularly more in that role), I think he could have offered a lot more to our team over the whole campaign - especially when Mason and Bentaleb were on death's door.

Not all the fans wanted anything,

We got closer to top 4 under AVB than we have since - just to state a fact. Don't think it's as simple as "all the fans" wanted this or that. A lot of fans are very fickle and sometimes that just leads to constant transition which achieves nothing except putting us further behind the top 4 each time we sack a manager. Levy just needs to give a manager a chance and not listen to some fans who think that sacking a manager and appointing another one will lead to utopia - that's just a reflection of today's throwaway society and is self defeating. I bet at the end of next season if we don't achieve something concrete certain fans will be moaning about Poch too.

You mean we came 5th? The same as this year..... "Definately" not a fact

Please dont tell me .... AVB got a better 5th than we got this year.

Paulinho looked decent in the Confederations Cup, which gave me the feeling that we had a decent player on our hands, however that has not been the case.

To be honest, ive always wondered how the hell he got voted 3rd best player in the confeds. He played like how he played for us, shuffling around and making the easy passes with limited skills. His midfiled partner (cant remember his name)looked much more an accomplished player but just because paulinho scored a few goals in midfield he was dubbed a good player.

I watched the confeds and seriously did not see anything special about him.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I also watched the confed cup especially after we were linked with him earlier on in the tournament. For every game I saw, I kept wishing we would buy his partner Luis Gustavo instead who was the much busier player and better suited to the PL. He was linked to the Arses at the time but ended up at wolfsburg. Paulinho grabbed all the headlines with a few goals and scolari is clearly obsessed with him and kept persevering with his inept performances in the last wc until it was clear that his selection could no longer be justified.

What I find most unforgivable about this player was an interview he gave last year explaining why he hadn't hit the heights in his first season. In it, he talked about finding it difficult to settle and then admitted to being too lazy to learn English which I find absolutely disgraceful. I mean we only invested 17m in him for fucks sake, the least he could do is try. That says it all for me and I just hope we invest a bit more in understanding the mentality, attitude and toughness of the players we sign.

"That's the guy...Gustavo....much much better than Paulinho but wasn't mentioned much at all"

Gustavo is very-good & would probably have been the better option. He cost Wolfsburg around 20million Euros, which is approx. equates to the same as the £17million we shelled out for his dung-heap of a partner.

Paulinho has largely been average at best & if the recent mentions of his professionalism have been anything to go by, then it's no wonder he failed. I can't help but feel, with the execeptions of Eriksen & Chadli, that we have been conned & woefully misled.
I'd add Lamela to that little list at the end, definitely

Exactamundo ! We only missed out by what 1 or 2 points? We rode higher for longer too that year. If Levy had got a striker in during the January window when Ade was swanning around Africa and Defoe was injured and playing with pain killing injections when he should have been on the treatment table, then we probably would have got 4th.
To be fair the only reason we got 5th this season was because Liverpool imploded at the end, we were nailed on for 6th really.
Before you say Bale bailed AVB out I'll say so did Kane with Poch.

Let's hope the Spurs DoF is moved on this summer....As the playing staff is a direct result of his buying decisions. In fact I am surprised he is still here, as the way Levy sacked Comoli was swift. We spent Bale's money in the way a £86m Lottery winner would do.. AVB did not get the players he wanted. So now Pauline has gone, followed by Vlad, Capoue soon, and looks like Soldado as well, Three to remain from the 7 bought. Two have proved they are worth keeping, and Lamela trying to as well. Levy will try his best to recoup as much as he can, and we are lucky that he is the best PL Chairman with his negotiating ability.

Unfortunately it is not that simple. Not sure how true it is but there was an article in the mail a few years ago stating that AVB wanted Paulinho, Soldado and Capoue and objected to Lamela, Chadli, Chiriches and Eriksen (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-did-not-want-four-seven-summer-signings.html).

Taking Chiriches out of the equation, the other three have been more productive than the 3 AVB allegedly did want! And here exactly is the problem with this system, it allows a complete lack of accountability between manager, DoF and board as no one knows who really pushed for which signing! at least when Harry was here you knew the players coming through the door were the ones he wanted. Hopefully, the Mitchell-Poch axis works better given the success they had together at Southampton.
