Why aren't we targeting these young players who come to Europe, instead of waiting two years to pay a premium for them?

It's definitely not as easy as 'just identifying these players and making a move for them before they make that move to another european club', but I understand where you're coming from.

It is quite frustrating to see the likes of Malcom, David Neres, Leon Bailey, Timo Werner etc with a £40m+ price tag on their head when they were all brought into their current clubs as highly rated prospects for reasonably small fees...

The Dembele who is now at Barcelona went for around £12m to Dortmund from Rennes, even our own Davinson Sanchez was sold to Ajax for around £4m before we had to pay 10 times that a year later to get him...

This buy and loan them out malark has to stop. One, because it doesn't apply to a club like us and secondly because I hate it with a passion.

Firstly, every big club scours South America for new talent so when you get a special talent like Vinicius (who may be worthy of loaning and sending back) the likes of Madrid and Barca already have tabs on them. The likes of Neres and Malcom are huge talents but they are still very very raw and we've seen time and time again how these players come to Europe and fail to live up to their promise (Kerlon, Denilson). Can a club such as ourselves afford the finances to buy and then loan these players out hoping that they become stars? No. We need to buy players to integrate as soon as possible and put funds into the first team. Can we afford to buy these players directly from Sao Paulo or Palmeiras? No. For the very reason Trix mentioned.

There's a reason you rarely see us do it with South American players and it's a pretty good one. - Foyth withstanding.

You said you wouldn't want to do anything like them, when what you're saying you don't want to do is part of what makes them so successful.

Eh? Chelsea didn't buy De Bruyne. Lukaku etc etc and send them abroad for years to get work permits. They already had the right to play in England. No idea what you're getting at.

That they buy young talent and loan them out when they aren't quite ready to play for the first team yet in the hopes of getting bargains. I'm not discussing anymore as its taking away from the player thread.

Regardless, I'd be disappointed if we aren't able to pull this deal off. This isn't a player that no one had heard of before this link, he is genuinely one of the bigger prospects in all of Europe and would be a huge asset to our attack and provide some additional diversity as to ways we could attempt to break down all these teams that park a bus against us. We need players with trickery not just flat out pace.

Some clubs just spend a lot more time and resources in other regions. We've missed out on some great players but we've also dodged a hell of a lot of bullets.

I'm sure a lot of those same clubs look at us and wonder why they didn't sign Bale, Dele, Kane etc before we did.

The additional 40-50m? Well you'd hope from the stadium we're building. We'll be more than doubling our match day revenue. Yes we obvs have to pay for the thing but we'll be getting sponsorship, NFL money, additional commercial partners, tv deal is about to go up again.
So I'm sure there'll be an extra 40-50m there minimum that we could use on transfer fees if we wish to. Possible though we might choose to use it on wage bill to protect our assets though.

Sorry, I thought you were asking for the club to spend £50m more than we earned, but in fact you’re only hoping we maintain a £o net spend.. that makes sense now.

That argument might hold some water if Man City weren't winning the league at a canter.

The best players generally cost the most money, and the teams that win the trophies almost always have the best players.
Apart from Leicester, Athletico Madrid, Dortmund and Monaco who all won their leagues recently despite being hugely outspent by their rivals.

If that means anything to anyone, who knows.

Harry Kane must be showing him around the training centre.

There are still some decent alternatives, my pick would be Quincy Promes. We've been linked with him since he moved from FC Twente to Russia and has done quite well there (was player of the year last year, only 6th foreigner to ever be named such). He is easily the best player of Spartak Moscow. He provides pace, dribbling, two good feet to cross and goals from the wing. He is an intelligent footballer that gets into the right positions to score. He's also currently rumoured to be on 5m Euro a year (84.4k sterling a week).

He's also done quite well in the UCL...

So not only has he copied David Brent's beard but his lyrical talents as well.

Southampton have been heavily linked with him recently, so Liverpool have already started saving up to splurge on him next season most likely.

On the contrary, Athletico, Dortmund and Monaco hugely outspent all but one or two of their rivals.

Leicester are the only real exception to the rule, and it'll be a long time before we see that sort of achievement again by a genuine minnow in this country.
