With all due respect...in 2016, he spent the whole summer saying we’d battle for Sessegnon and we didn’t, then last year he spent all summer saying we were extremely interested in De Ligt and he’s been embarrassed by Poch and Jj who’ve both said we have no interest in Bowen, a guy he’s been peddling for weeks now.

He may be a spurs journo, but he knows little about what the club is doing.

So by that theory because we haven’t signed anyone that we’ve been linked with every piece of ITK must be bullshit as they’ve all said pretty much the same on Sess & De Ligt

No journo or itk has a 100% success rate. Hell most barely scrape by 10% success rates in terms of linking a player to the club and it ultimately resulting in a buy. He shares what he knows or believes from people he trusts or is briefed by the club on and we all apply our own levels of salt.

Since Dan KP and Ben Pearce haven't also released quotes that Spurs have not contacted Malcom I would wager this info is from a source he trusts but is not a club briefing and so it's all up to whatever we subscribe to that source.

I’m not trying to slag the guy off at all, I fully appreciate what he does and enjoy the insight he gives us. However, imo he isn’t a source that should result in people downing tools and moving on if he rules out a player.

He’s a spurs journo, so any information he receives comes from spurs. If we were interested in Malcom, his source isn’t going to say, knowing full well that he’d post it online, “yeah mate, we want Malcom and we’re in talks” actually, they’d be more likely to say otherwise to stop rumours or interest spreading

Also worth mentioning he didn't deny us being interested in Malcom this window, just that we haven't approached Barca as of yet.

Its a good point. If you're willing to dismiss a source because they said we wanted sessegnon and de ligt, that's a lot of other sources completely disregarded as well.

In fact, I think its widely accepted that they were targets which haven't worked out for whatever reason, which would suggest this journo isn't far from it.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but all indications from the beginning have been that the next player added to our UCL squad, if a space is freed up, will be Juan (Poch has said this at least once). The thing that I find most informative from Alasdair's article is the confirmation that Foyth will in fact be added to the UCL squad in Dembele's place. Because N'Koudou and Janssen were never in the UCL squad, moving them on wouldn't free up any space in that squad. So, I think that alone puts the kibosh on this Malcom rumor. Right? The idea that we would bring in a loan signing who wouldn't be fully up to speed for the upcoming cup games, and wouldn't be able to play against Dortmund, doesn't fit at all. The only exception to this would be if we took a huge risk and moved Llorente and freed up his space as well. That would be a signal that Malcolm could in fact be a real possibility. Otherwise, it's a load of crap.

Not sure i would draw the same conclusions Miss Marple, we are competing in more than one competition!

Alastair Gold is a good writer and he has published some brilliant Spurs articles, a lot on this site as well I think.

He does seem to now be a bit of a mouthpiece for the club, tasked with dismissing any transfer rumour and making sure the fans don’t start getting above their station and expecting the club to sign a player.

Is there any such thing as a decent paper?

Probably more decent than the above and an internet only outlet in Football London.
