When a team with unlimited resources comes in for your 'once in a lifetime' player who you don't have to sell at this precise moment in time, you squeeze them as hard as you possibly can. Kane will be worth just as much with a year less on his contract and all of us would be happy if he stayed. IMO, any deal should make their eyes water or they can piss off. They don't particularly need Laporte either.
This would all be true had Kane not stated his desire to leave. And don't think the City players didn't get tasked with turning him at the Euros.

I'm not aware of Kane stating that he 'wants to leave'. As far as I know, that's the spin that's been put on the situation by the media.

I don't think any City players need to work on him. In the Neville interview he all but said he wants to go to City

He hasn't expressed his desire to leave, Sky have.
Sky is appalling. They should stick to reporting the news not creating the news. Some of their pundits are so biased towards their old teams, the worst ones being Souness,Keane, Carragher and Neville. All Man Utd and Liverpool..

If you read between the lines, if you can in a filmed interview, he puts a price on his head of £100m and also when asked who could supply him more goals a season he suggests KDB. No he doesn't come out and say he wants to leave but the clues are there.

Maybe he didn't 'state' his desire to leave, but I think he made it very clear. His decision to agree to give that kind of interview was obviously mutually beneficial with Sky, said he wants to win trophies, play with De Bruyne etc...

But has he actually denied this spin? It's the best possible scenario for him - he has deniability while at the same time indirectly indicating that he wants out. Makes the club's position equally difficult

There are only two ways this should go - either make it definitive that he's staying or make the sale quickly. The worst scenario is that we cave at the end of the window.
While that would be ideal, whether Kane ultimately stays or goes, I don't think the club can take any decisive action within the next 2-3 weeks.
Kane made it pretty clear before the season ended / window opened that nothing will be decided until after the Euros. This means any announcements that Kane is staying or formal transfer negotiations would upset Kane and make the situation less favourable (irrespective of the decision made) for all parties involved. Even if the club chooses to force him to stay, a premature announcement would hardly help to keep Kane motivated going into the new season.

Publicly announcing that he won't decide his future until after the Euros was an admission that he's at least considering his options. Hopefully in the meantime we can figure out how to convince him he wants to stay (manager appointment, squad rebuild etc.)

I agree that it was obvious from that interview that he wants to join Man. City this summer. It's also obvious that we won't sell him for £100m this summer.

I think he is realistic enough to see that it might not happen this summer.

Again he's not in a position where he can make a decision as to where his future lies next season. Ultimately it is not up to him.

Said it before and I'll say it again, if you wanna leave then don't sign a 6 year deal. No one had a gun to his head!

I agree, he's under contract to us. I don't buy into "He deserves this, that, or whatever" he gets paid a huge amount of money to play for us and was happy to sign a contract that will set him up for life. If we don't want to sell him this or next season there's very little he can do about it.

Agreed! I should have worded that "decide what he wants his future to be", as I didn't mean to suggest he could dictate his future while under contract.

Media rumours/stirring aside, he has made comments on camera that raise questions about whether he wants to stay. If he does have any doubts about remaining here, convincing him he wants to stay would clearly be preferable to forcing him to stay against his wishes (if he's already convinced then great!).
As Kane has chosen to avoid making any definitive comments before/during the Euros, it seems pragmatic of the club to also hold off on any definitive announcements. Otherwise we'd risk upsetting him with the timing of an announcement (by distracting him during the Euros etc.), even if the content of the announcement doesn't upset him.

My view remains that no club is currently willing/able to make an offer large enough for Levy to even entertain, so Kane will be staying put whether he wants to or not.

I'm unsure whether Levy would be more amused or offended by a £100m bid from Man City, but City would surely know better than to offer it.
