Man Utd 2 - 3 Spurs Vertonghen, Bale, Dempsey
Nani, Kagawa
Spurs: Friedel, Walker, Gallas, Caulker, Vertonghen, Sandro, Dembele (Huddlestone), Dempsey (Sigurdsson), Lennon, Bale, Defoe (Dawson)
Subs: Lloris, Falque, Townsend and Mason
Man Utd:Lindegaard, Rafael, Ferdinand (Hernandez), Evans, Evra, Carrick, Scholes, Nani, Giggs (Rooney), Kagawa (Welbeck), van Persie
Subs: De Gea, Anderson, Wootton, Cleverley,
Ref: Chris Foy
1732: GOAL - Man Utd 0-1 Tottenham - Jan Vertonghen
90 seconds played, Manchester United haven't touched the ball and Tottenham lead. Defender Jan Vertonghen bursts into the United box and fires a low shot that deflects in off Jonny Evans. It was poor defending from the home side, particularly Rio Ferdinand, who pretty much stood and watched as Vertonghen passed by.
1801: GOAL- Man Utd 0-2 Tottenham - Gareth Bale
What about this then? Tottenham are usually lambs to the slaughter at Old Trafford but they're the butchers so far today. Christian... sorry Gareth Bale collects a pass from Moussa Dembele just inside the Manchester United half and tears away from Rio Ferdinand and into the box before slotting a shot across Anders Lindegaard and in. Batman would have been proud of that.
1818: HALF-TIME - Man Utd 0-2 Tottenham
1839: GOAL - Man Utd 1-2 Tottenham - Nani
It is the early goal Manchester United desperately needed. Wayne Rooney make an immediate impact with a superb cross that Nani is able to steer across Brad Friedel and in to the goal. You'd expect the Spurs nerves to kick in now. Game on.
1840: GOAL - Man Utd 1-3 Tottenham - Clint Dempsey
Nerves? Not a chance. Tottenham hit back straight away as Jermain Defoe skips away past Rio Ferdinand and feeds the ball in to Gareth Bale in the box. His shot is palmed out by Anders Lindegaard but straight to Clint Dempsey, who slots in to the empty net. Rio is having a bit of a shocker. And Tottenham are buoyant again.
1842:GOAL - Man Utd 2-3 Tottenham - Shinji Kagawa
This is unbelievable! Manchester United hit back straight away. Robin van Persie feeds a superb pass to Shinji Kagawa in the box and he applies the neatest of finishes to slot the ball past Brad Friedel and in off the far post. You can't take your eyes off this for a second. It's a superb game.

Red Devils eyeing fifth league win on the bounce at home to Spurs

Tottenham travel to Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday evening seeking their first win at Old Trafford since 1989.

United boast an imperious record over their visitors, having won 17 and lost none of their last 22 Premier League games against the North Londoners.
Spurs will be desperate to address that hoodoo when they make the trip north this weekend, but could face a tough task against a Red Devils side who are currently second in the fledgling table.
Sir Alex Ferguson's men are yet to set the league alight with their form this season but 12 points from their opening five league games have left them in a solid position, just a point adrift of early leaders Chelsea.
Tottenham, meanwhile, have made up for a lacklustre start with back-to-back wins against Reading and QPR to sit eighth in the table with eight points.
The jury still appears to be out on new Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas, who replaced Harry Redknapp in the summer, but victory over United would no doubt see the Portuguese's stock rise.
However, with United having won their last six consecutive games in all competitions without ever really hitting top gear, Spurs could have their work cut out on Saturday.
Villas-Boas will be boosted by the form of Jermain Defoe, who has scored four goals for Tottenham and two for England so far this season and will be on the hunt for his 200th career goal at Old Trafford.

Manchester United

Antonio Valencia is United's major injury concern after the Ecuador wide-man suffered a nasty knock on his ankle at Liverpool last week and Ferguson rates him as "doubtful".
The manager has been left with a defensive headache after club captain Nemanja Vidic underwent knee surgery on Tuesday to rule him out for eight weeks.
Phil Jones (knee) and Chris Smalling (broken metatarsal) are still on the sidelines, meaning the boss is short of options at the back, with Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans United's only fit central defenders.

Tottenham

Brad Friedel will return in goal for Tottenham's trip to Old Trafford after Carlo Cudicini took over for the midweek Capital One Cup triumph over Carlisle.
Hugo Lloris will be on the bench and defender Kyle Naughton could return after missing last week's win over QPR with a foot injury he sustained against Lazio.
Emmanuel Adebayor (hamstring), Scott Parker (Achilles), Jake Livermore (groin), Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Younes Kaboul (both knee) are out.

Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia is doubtful to face Tottenham after suffering an ankle injury during the win at Liverpool.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson must decide whether or not to pick Wayne Rooney as he eases him back from injury.
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas will restore the likes of Brad Friedel, Gareth Bale and Jermain Defoe to his side after they were rested in midweek.
Kyle Naughton could return after missing the match with QPR last Sunday.

What were you doing in December 1989?* I only ask because that's the last time Spurs beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. They've been the visitors 26 times since and lost 22 times - including the last nine in a row.
Factor in games at White Hart Lane (and one at Wembley) and a symmetry of United dominance appears. Twenty six games undefeated against Spurs anywhere, in any competition, winning 22 of them.

Of course, none of that means that Spurs are without a chance this time, and I quite fancy them to at least run United close.
Results-wise, both teams are in form with League Cup wins this week to add to runs of four (for Manchester United) and two (for Spurs) league wins in a row. Both also had to show spirit, and arguably make the most of a bit of luck, in coming from behind to win last weekend - in United's case the third time in five league games this season that they've turned a result around.
I was there the first time it happened against Fulham in August, and remember two things from that game that could be factors here.
Mousa Dembele was terrific in his final appearance for the Cottagers, and I really like the look of the Spurs midfield now as he, Clint Dempsey and Gylfi Sigurdsson settle in. Add Sandro, Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon, Tom Huddlestone and Scott Parker to come back - plus talented prospects Andros Townsend, Jake Livermore and Yago Falque...that's some strength in depth.
It was also the Fulham game in which Wayne Rooney suffered that horrific cut to his thigh. His comeback against Newcastle on Wednesday was hailed as "terrific" by Sir Alex Ferguson, and he looked in the best shape he's been in since May. A fit Rooney can now properly start to form a partnership with Robin van Persie - a frightening thought for the rest of the league.
*Gary Lineker was scoring the winner in a 1-0 Spurs win at Old Trafford. I was 'studying' for A-levels in a Guns N' Roses t-shirt. Jive Bunny were ridiculously at number one in the charts.

Head-to-head

    • The Red Devils have been awarded a penalty in each of their last three league matches. The last Premier League club to get four in a row was Arsenal in 2007.
    • Wayne Rooney has scored seven goals in his last eight Premier League appearances against Tottenham, and five in the last five.
    • Robin van Persie is set to make his 200th Premier League appearance. He scored five goals and made four assists in his last six league home games against Tottenham while at Arsenal.
    Tottenham
    • The win over QPR gave boss Andre Villas-Boas back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since January, when his then-Chelsea side beat Wolves 2-1 away and Sunderland 1-0 at home.
    • Tottenham have scored a league-high 88% of their goals in the second half this season.
    • Jermain Defoe has had more shots than any other player in the Premier League this season (31) and has had the most on target (nine). He has four goals and an assist in five league appearances and is currently on 199 club career goals.

Most years I am lucky (or unlucky) to watch us at Old Trafford.

Every year I'm not confident and end up watching a shambolic refereeing performance.

This year I have declined the offer of a free ticket.

I feel different this year.

It's actually refreshing to be going into a game not expecting anything. As long as we don't get humped, it's cool. A draw and I'll be pleased. A win and I don't know what I'll do!

I love how relaxed everyone is when it comes to Man u away. No level of expectation at all after all this time! Having said that, I will doubtless be screaming my head off come half 5 and spend the rest of the weekend in a funk after our inevitable capitulation.

I can take a loss but please lord don't make it a really embarrassing one. I'm going to enjoy the game either way, hopefully Dembele can give us a repeat of his performance for Fulham! COYS

I'm on the way now, its cold by southern standards but baking by northern standards up here today.
Its my first time at old trafford and I predict our first win here since the invention of football.

good banner, i like the fergie watch bit :)

as for the game i expect we will lose to some random penalty or mishap etc but it would be great if we got a draw or a win and played some good football. I hope we have a midfield three of sandro dembele and dempsey with lennon defoe and bale up front.
