I think he’s said he does protect players a lot which I think, but not sure, he said in a video I watched of him where the context was he was talking about him being distant and the thing he did to negate that was always taking blame and protecting the players, publically anyway. I might be remembering the context wrong (or the whole thing) but pretty sure he said something along those lines.

Suppose it's the context behind it. He'll defend and protect players who make mistakes if they're playing the football he wants them too, but anyone that hides from that, or uses it to deflect, is going to be out.

The Athletic has a great profile of him up, where one of his former players said he'd praise a guy for making a mistake passing from the back because they had the confidence to do it, while slamming those around him for hiding, not presenting as an option etc.

Son will be more of an issue than Kane I feel. We should be fine with players pressing around Kane who also works hard. As long as the whole team presses we will be fine. Son is still fit though and a great finisher. I would be tempted to play him more from the bench and start Richarlison who is going to be a lot more aggressive in the press. I get the feeling we would use Emerson from right back, Porro at the widest point on the right wing and Kulusevski more of a central role. The left will see a more physical combination of Udogie and Richarlison.

It's going to be interesting to see what he does in central midfield. The central 3 with just 1 sitting hasn't really worked when we've tried it. Although we also haven't necessarily stuck with it for long either. I get the feeling in this league you need 2 alongside in there both doing the hard work. We just need balls in front of them to play out rather than not many forward passes available. There's no reason we shouldn't make triangles between 2 central midfielders and 4 in front. 4231 probably still suits us best.

NewGK
Emerson--Romero--NewLCB--Udogie
Bissouma--Skipp
Porro--Kulusevski--Richarlison
Kane
I would change Skipp for Bentancur though :)

No particular reason but as he is brother in law of Levy sure some see it as Levy meddling but all the coaches seem happy to work with him, apparently he was given a more prominent role by Poch and then Paratici.
He's apparently very popular by the players as well! He's in his positon on merits!

"Just 1 sitting hasn't really worked"
I think that's because we've been playing a defensive system. When you're sitting back and being attacked 1 isn't going to work. When you're on the front foot and attacking, the 1 is mopping up and preventing balls going forward to their one or two players they have forward. It's very different

Aside from Mason, who might be able to stay on Anges coaching team from the club? Think Ryan needs a managing job in a lower league now, he’s earned it.

Hard working or not they are clever and will understand his instruction better than most. If you are looking for players to find half spaces and move the ball quickly between the lines then there are few better than Kane and Son for knowing where the other is and finding that space.

I honestly think as a collective we are fixated on him definitely playing exactly the same way he did at Celtic when he's played multiple different systems at different clubs 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 3-4-3. The only thing that doesn't change is his philosophy of moving the ball forward quickly and exploiting the spaces. If he sets up like he did at Celtic without major changes to personnel we will get ripped apart week after week. He's far from a stupid man and will know this. He will understand for instance he won't need to, or even be able to, create the number of chances his Celtic team did because our finishing is far superior. This won't mean he changes his philosophy, he wont. He'll still play to those fundamentals just maybe with a 2 man double pivot instead of one. I just don't believe this squad will get the major surgery required to play his Celtic system for a while, it's just far too many in's and out's.
Yep, it’s about the quality of the press, rather than running round like a headless chicken.

Kane is smart enough with his positioning to cut down the passing lines and press effectively over shorter distances.

I suspect every top manager has a different approach to this and I highly doubt every "elite" manager has the exact same approach and has long intense 1-2-1 chats with every player.

Many top managers are renowned for basically ignoring and barely speaking to half the squad individually. Tuchel is renowned for being frosty and aloof, while I very much doubt Conte has many 1-2-1s with the players.

Honestly reckon we're reading into it too much and there are plenty of other managers at all levels of the game that do exactly the same as Ange, while there are plenty of others who have success with more of a personal touch and lots of individual time.

Don't think there's a correct or incorrect way, necessarily, provided the players buy in to the manager's ideas and methods.
SOunds to me like people looking for reasons to be able to say "I told you so" when it happens. I'm really happy he's here and hopeful we'll enjoy the ride. COYAP

There is the face of a man who has realised that no matter how much he says it this team is incapable of playing his football properly. I hope I never see Ange looking like this!
