Another former player who says things about Ange that make me love the guy.

The coach released him from the match-day squad in order to be with his partner when his daughter was born.

“He told me: ‘No matter the game, I want you to enjoy it and then come to the stadium to celebrate the victory’. And that’s what happened,” Erik added.

“He gave a very beautiful speech to the entire stadium saying that a beautiful girl had arrived for the Marinos family. I always show this video to my daughter, who smiles every time.”

The thing that surprises me most is that I thought, and I don’t think I was alone, we’d have an up and down season. Winning some we weren’t expecting to win and losing some to a few who we’d usually be expecting to beat and probably ending up somewhere between 6th-8th. On top of that, given what most of us knew about his philosophy (which was little) we’d end up getting pumped in quite a few games and not necessarily to just the big teams but the thing people aren’t talking as much about is how organised Ange has our defence. We seem to be able to switch really quickly off the ball into our defensive shape while obviously we have a strong desire to press high up the pitch. Obviously VDV, Vicario, Udogie and Romero’s form has helped this but the one thing that makes me think we could be in for a real shout of the FA cup and (top 3) is how solid we look at the back. I thought we’d be leaking goals for fun but teams are finding it hard to score against us. Only 8 goals conceded with an own goal or 2 in there is very impressive. Obviously plenty of time for the wheels to fall off but the signs are good.

That was my take on it, and it still is. Squad depth / injuries and the high line / inverted full backs will likely see us slip down the table. I think we have been fortunate that teams have not been as clinical as they might have been against us. I know we have missed chances as well, it's part of the fine margins of the game, but I can recall some really clear cut opportunities our opponents have missed this season, and that won't last for ever.

Of the 10 games to play in the first round of 19 we still have to face Chelsea, City, Newcastle, Villa, Brighton, Spam, all tough games, and I don't see Palace, Wolves, Everton and Forest being walkovers. 2nd half at Burnley aside, we've not really taken a team apart yet.

Despite how the above reads, I am enjoying the ride and especially the banter with oposition fans!

Gary O’Neil made some good points MNF about how difficult it is for teams to play against us because of the constant rotation of players. How can you tell a player to mark another player if that player is t consistently in the position he is supposed to be? I think this is the real reason we are so hard to play against. As it’s like TH “total football” of the peak Barca. Everyone can play/cover in any position it makes tactics hard to implement. I’m sure we will get found out eventually. But it’s a great tactical master class from Ange.

Was quite impressed by O'Neil, his philosophy and how he explained things.

If we win against Palace, we're the only team with 100% wins in October. Not played any 'good' teams, but surely Ange has a big chance to win MotM again? Has that ever happened before, three in a row?

Dunno but if it happens it’s in the Prem rules to rename it to the Ange Postecoglou MOTM Award

Yes, Klopp and Conte both have 3 in a row, and Pep holds the record with 4 in a row. Klopp holds the record in 1 season (not consecutively) with 5.
