I'm pretty confident he saw Son working up front all along. It was probably more of Ange hoping/thinking Richy would work as a striker (he sort of did during the preseason), so he could use them both more naturally.
Hmm as I say you could make that argument but you also talk about 'natural' positions and he really makes it seem like Richarlison at CF never happened and he wasn't forced to move him because he was so poor. Perhaps that was him trying to protect Richy a bit also. As acknowledging it verbally could affect his confidence

Anyway only highlighting because he's been absolutely impeccable and super likeable otherwise so was a surprise

First thing I've heard Ange say that I'm not so convinced about

In summary, he says that he knew Son could replace Kane and didn't bother buying another striker in the summer. However we know he played Son at LW and Richarlison as CF for several games until it was clear it wasn't working with Richarlison and then switched them around. It's fine if he's saying he knew he had 2 strikers of which one was Son but he makes it sound like it was always his plan to play Son....bit naughty ?

He said he had other options too but knew son could do it. Or words to that effect.

Maybe he just didn't have better options on the left. Gil was injured, Perisic too old to play from the start at the intensity he needed, Soloman had to get up to speed and we didn't sign Johnson until the end of the window (then he started on the left straight away and got injured). So he has to play one of Son or Richarlison on the left and Son had been playing there previously so went with him.

Agree. Solomon was the obvious one to start as he was fit but the way Ange talked about him right after his injury it sounded like he was struggling with understanding his role tactically and was only starting to fully adapt when the injury occurred.

Yeah actually read-reading it he only alludes to Son being Kane's direct replacement and they make a headline of it. What he actually says is that he was the best fit but wasn't the only option:

"Going into the transfer market and bringing in someone that was going to score 25-30 goals, I just don’t think that was realistic. He’s got great capacity for working, pressing. I just thought he would be a really good fit for us here. He wasn’t the only option I was looking at but probably the best fit for where we are as a team and what we needed"

So Ange is still my favourite person in world history. Phew !

Bad result but down to 9 men and we’re on the halfway line defending.
Odd but I absolutely loved it, always play our way. Ange I love you

Ange we appreciate the 71 depth tactic straight out of Ultimate Team.

These next few weeks are going to be the true test, with 4 of our best players likely to be out.

Time to see where he is on the special scale. If he can turn dier into a defender he could become our greatest manager. Hoping we don't keep this high line with dier in his sprint start position painful.

This is now when that extra CB Ange didn’t get from Levy in the final hours of the summer window will really cost us.

Ange is a miracle worker but his style is a high line and he won’t change so he needs players to suit it and Dier at LCB sprinting backwards is going to be a problem now.

I fucking love him, even more so now, especially seeing the ex back for the first time since 4 years ago in charge of a vile club, I'm even loving more he's our manager.

Reading the post match interview and I'm glad he's showing more class than those fucking whinge bags Arteta, Pep and Klopp.

I watched it and you can see that despite massive disappointment, he was able to focus on what was important and how the whinging was undermining the refs.

Full quote:

"You have to accept the referee's decision, that is how I grew up. This constant erosion of the referee's authority is where the game is going to get - they are not going to have any authority. We are going to be under the control of someone with a tv screen a few miles away. The decision is the decision. In 26 years I have had plenty of bad decisions, I have had plenty fall in my favour. It is what it is."
