Good article on Anges style of play and injuries and how it’s happened at all of his clubs but gets better in 2nd season when players are more used to it and squad is more robust/deeper.

(Can’t link directly to article as it autocorrects a certain saying in the url) 🤣😅

This won’t be popular but I’ve never really seen what all the fuss is about with regards to ‘using the acedemy’
All I want is success, and if possible playing good football.
I couldn’t really give 2 hoots if our players have come though our academy or if we bought them from a dodgy Chinese seller on eBay.
If I’m really honest I find the obsession about using the academy a bit odd.
Well, the best striker in the world came through our academy.

Side note - love seeing how involved Lo Celso gets.
He's a little shithouse - always on the edge of it if not right in the middle of it. I love him for it, I'd imagine he's one of those lads you want to smack if he's not playing for your club.

Campbell (sorry) debut in 1992, King in 1999, Kane in 2009. That's pretty shocking in terms of top players from the academy over the last 30 years. We're asking a lot for Ange to use the academy.

The academy has been very poor for a long time and we've lost out on so many players to other clubs because of how poor it has been. Big clubs that have had successful academies use their youth players all the time. I totally understand the argument that we haven't let any slip through the net because they haven't been good enough. This group we have now are just not comparable to what we've had in the past. Standing out in our academy now is difficult because the quality is so much higher than it was in the past. Those that stand out need to know there is a pathway to the first team otherwise we will start to lose them. It really is that simple.

Look back at my posts on the subject. I have never pushed for players to be given chances until the last year or so, because the quality just wasn't there. It is now, and other clubs and agents know it. It won't be long before they start getting lured away if their is no progression path in place for them.

Yeah although I think that’s the reality for most clubs. Those are three world class players at their best. I think most clubs do well to produce one or two world class players through their academy every ten years.

How many world class players have Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U* etc academies produced in the same period?

*after the “class of 92”

Which players specifically would you want to be given more game time and in place of whom?

Im not saying you’re right or wrong as I don’t watch the academies although hear good things about Donley, Dorrington and Santiago all who have been on the bench recently.

Im of the opinion that a lot of youth players are quite similar abilities across most academies but they can only properly develop if given game time in men’s football either on loan or in the 1st team so for those 3 if Ange won’t play them when we have injuries they should go on loan.

Id like to think and hope if Ange stays with us long term them once we are in Europe and deeper in cups competitions then these young players can be given more game time but I can see why he’s not risked them in such high stakes crucial PL games so far.

He’s the kind of guy that leaves with the bird (when you’re in the toilet) that you’ve been putting hard yards in with all night!

I think Donley is the one that should've seen some minutes. He's been outstanding for his age level and we've had an injury crisis in midfield forcing us to use Skipp, Kulusevski and Hojbjerg in creative roles. Kulusevski has been alright at it, but the other two not so much. Likewise Phillips and Dorrington, although the former missed his first chance due to injury, now both are available yet we are starting Emerson at CB and giving Dier minutes, a player who we are looking to move on.

Personally, I don't get the feeling that Ange feels it is the right time to give these lads meaningful minutes. It's one thing to make your PL starting debut with Romero alongside you to talk you through a game and another to be part of a makeshift defence. The counter to this is the argument that if you aren't going to use these promising young players when you are 5-6 players deep into your squad then when will you?

That will be at the heart of their thinking when the club want to renew their contract and likely what other prospects will think when they hit that level where they are too good to continue in the U18's and U21's.

Sounds promising for sure and it's good to see the youth teams doing well. I think its a bit premature to big them up at this time though. They haven't proven at this level as yet so we don't know how good they really are. I appreciate they need chances to show that though. It's not easy because we've been playing a much higher level for a while now. We're not just talking about a Premier League side but one challenging top 4 each season. It's ok for teams like Brighton and Newcastle where the pressure and expectation is lower. For us even signings we make who have experience can struggle (Richarlison for example had a tough first year). It's not that the youth have to be good, they need to be pretty special to make it into our team.
