I came across this from a Bayern fan. Bild very reliable for their transfers it seems.

Levy wouldn't/couldn't convince Batshauyi to join but he's going to sign Gotze?
Yep because that's why we didn't get Batshauyi!

Honestly some of you just make things up out of no where!! It's partly entertaining but mostly frustrating as the seed gets planted for others who may start believing in the lies!

Just for the record, a lot of ITK said personal terms were agreed and he wanted to come. But we couldn't agree a few as it went up when other clubs West Ham and later Chelsea bit higher! So we pulled out!

As far as Gotze goes....we all appreciate that this isn't going to be a straightforward signing (if we are in fact interested and trying) however, I believe it isn't quite as far fetched as some have made out!

Götze is a world class AM if he gets back to his form with Dortmund and even now at Bayern he's not been sensational but he's scored and assisted 7 goals in something like 13 starts last season and 60 assists+goals in 114 games total for Bayern since joining. People wanted us to pay £30m for Batshuayi and now when we have the chance to sign a 24yo world cup winner from Bayern for £20m, people are actually saying no?
Seriously, what have you guys been smoking?

Apart from anything else

I honestly don't think he is what we need.

I don't rate WTFs or anything as I would rather just hear your explanation. If you can get a real talent like Mario, why would you not? He has the vision and close control we have been looking for in the final third.

LOL

The reason we don't have multiple players on 100K+ per week is because we can't afford it. Nothing to do with ambition.

When the new stadium is built that will surely change but in the meantime I trust Levy not to commit financial suicide and put the club at risk.

I think this type of signing also enhance the value of the club eg, sponsorship, promo tours etc. Our commercial appeal has significant room to improve. Signing one top player a season should improve our commercial standing as well.

Great find, the lack of Goat in Tier 1 makes me dubious though! ;)

Is that a given is it? And as stated it is not £20 million, the total transaction is around £40 million if you factor in his salary and most likely length of contract. It is a massive transaction for us for a player where there is significant concerns. There is no comparison to be made with VDV, who cost us £8 million and was on modest wages.

People talking about wages... firstly, wages are rarely made public. Yes there are always rumours and things, but Harry Kane can't just open a spreadsheet and see what everybody else is earning.

Secondly, Kane, Lloris, Lamela et al signing new improved contracts can only be a good thing. And extra £40k/week is a lot cheaper than having to replace Kane with a new striker PLUS wages. I know everybody is sill a few years away from being able to leave on a free, but no harm in adding an extra year or two to their contracts.

Finally, like has been said plenty of times already, Gö(yeah, I'm including it)tze is a World Cup winner and despite a poor season a superstar signing. The players want to win things you know. I'm sure they won't be worried about a World Cup winning coming in on a few quid more than them if it keeps them challenging for things.

It's as much of a given as any transfer these days. We signed VdV for £8m when our record signing was £15m, signing Götze now with the huge influx of money both to our club and the league in general and our previous record signing at around £30m, it's pretty much the same. And truth be told, neither you nor I know what wages he would be on at our club and if the club think they can afford it, they can. I trust in Poch, I trust in the club and Götze is a sensational player when he's on form.

EDIT: I also cannot see these significant concerns. He's lost his way a bit under Guardiola, not the first player to do that and certainly not the last. He's used to working in a pressing system, is great in tight spaces and has more experience at winning trophies than almost all of our squad combined.

But in terms of cash flow, his wages come before 9sometimes several years before) any increased revenue from sponsorship etc.

And that's the problem.

I don't think he possesses the mentality Poch requires for our team, I don't doubt he has good technique and ability but the difference between him and VdV mentality is stark.

If we brought him and Poch doesn't play him or indeed does play him it could destroy everything that Poch has been trying to build for the last 2 years.

An expensive gamble.

Looking at our targets of late and the players we've signed under Poch, we almost certainly wouldn't sign a player who Poch doesn't think would do the job or fit in the system.
I.e the ITK about Poch not wanting Sanabria after meeting him or us not going for Berahino after he kicked up a fuss last year.

Why just not pay Bayern a higher transfer fee and let them subsidise some of his wages, or give him a larger signing on fee?

I had mention it before.... By paying a higher fee, the cost is amortized as opposed to expense in salary. The financial impact is manageable over the contract length.

We will not sign anyone in Jan so we need to get as many upgrade in this window. Man U and Citeh is reshaping and if he comes, our mentality and confidence will be at a level higher.
