Would members of this forum be happy to sign an openly gay footballer? Or would you be reluctant due to the adverse attention both from press and peers.

Couldn't care less as long as they were able to perform on the pitch. There is no doubt that the circus surrounding an out player would make it difficult for them to do that, and I am not surprised that they choose to keep it a secret and get on with their career.

Don't know about Gomez but id like to think we'd be open minded enough to help break the last taboo in football and sport in general. Its disgusting that in 2010 gay footballers still feel the need to keep their sexuality hidden out of fear.



We want all our players to be proud to wear the cock on their chests anyway (and in one swoop i destroy any valid point made previously).

I have no idea how good a player her is so i can't comment on him personally, but ANYONE that didn't want to sign a player purely because they were gay, disregarding any kind of ability is scum, pure and simple.

How about a gay quota for each team - say 4 senior squad members. They would have to prove their gayness to a panel and, since this is my idea, I should obviously be the chief judge on the panel.

And in reply to the topic, I couldn't care less who any of our players sleep with, so it makes no odds to me if it's a bloke or a woman they're getting it on with. That's their business.

If Gomez isn't gay why is he getting involved? If I were a gay footballer I'd be telling Gomez mind his own business.

Plenty of people go about their professional business without disclosing their sexuality one way or the other.

I wouldn't be against it, I think it could work really well. I can see the potential in gay footballers.

Nobody would want to mark them too tight in case they tried to bum them or gave them AIDS. They would get loads of space and opportunities to score (goals not bum holes).

I would be annoyed however if they couldn't play due to a 'split ring'. Might be costly to build a seperate changing room too.

Who knows, it may be good to have a gay on the team, especially if he is braver and more manly than some of the quite frankly "gay" players in the team. It could make a few of the players think "Hey, we have this raging homo on the team, who loves flowers and kittens and lavender pillows- yet he is more manly than me."

I say: Bring in the gayers. All of them.
