But thats not quite how it happened Shady. We had two bad performances at the start of the season and then the club were caught making dizzying offers to Ramos and then proceeded to back Jol until the Getafe match when the fact he was sacked was leaked to the media. You can't get caught tapping up Ramos and then go on the back Jol as it just made the board look foolish.

They were caught meeting with Ramos, that's the only mistake they made. Meeting with Ramos was not a mistake, but getting caught was.

If Jol had accepted one of the job offers he'd been mulling over in the past, and walked out on Spurs, would you be happy for Levy to turn around and admit he had no idea about any other managers or what their situation was? That we'd have Clipboard Chris in charge for the next 6 months while they go off and do their research?

I'd expect the chairman to keep constant tabs on the other managers in football, so THFC aren't caught with their pants round their ankles if anything goes wrong. Just as at the moment I hope Comolli is having talks with other top strikers, just so he's not caught off guard if Berbatov wants out in the summer.

I don't like making excuses for peoples failure. By talking about "2 bad performances" you're implying that all the poor results afterwards were because John Alexander got photographed with Ramos?! To me, that's clutching at straws. All I see it that out of 14 matches this season, Jols record was W3 L6 D5 (with 2 of the wins being against Derby and Famagusta at home!!) So he got the sack.

the Board made the right decision (however badly handled) to get in JR - and I think the timing was about right to - I don't think it was feasible in the summer (but hey I'm not party to inside info)

I'm with Shady on this . Levy has to look after the club and the managerial change was him doing his job . Whichever way you cut the cards Ramos's credentials were fabulous .

I quite like the anti Levy argument that he should have shaken up the club in the last close season and not let other clubs overtake us . Snag with this is that our incredible run in at the end of last season , snatching 5th at the death , made that seem unnecessary . In a way 6th would have been better , 5th flattered and made Jol impregnable .

.

So your love of Levy and the board comes before your love of Tottenham .

....Final point which Shady made is also important when assessing JR against Mart....There has been a surge of quality and expenditure by many clubs and we have serious opposition to our '5th best in Prem' imaginary status now .

The argument that Jol's achievement is down to other teams failure is so transparent .

How many of those many clubs who were below fifth last season have spent less than us ? Or have they just spent wiser ?

OK point one , 6th would have made no difference to Euroqualification and I was speculating that 5th made a close season Jol sacking even less palatable ( the Levy moaner's central argument being that he should have made the change in close season )

I don't love Levy I'm simply assessing his performance ( your 'love Levy' remark is pure provocative crap )

Point 2 I never said Jol's success was all down to other team's failures , but the changing background in the quality of the Prem should be taken into account...

...and I think you're right that other team's spent better in close season but remember... it has never been conclusively proved that Jol had NO PART in any of our close season purchases or that Levy was solely responsible for all of them .

yep - agreed gilzean - as manager Jol has to take part of the blame and praise for the signings - no-one on here I'm sure knows who wanted which player etc - it's a committee decision - Jol was part of that committee

I take it you haven't gone to the trouble of watching the interview or reading the posts, so I will give you a simple answer.

No, he isn't bitter. Came across very professional and decent, as always.

The man is a true gentleman and obviously loves Spurs.

Had Berbatov not got injured against arsenal. Had Defoe not missed that sitter to make it 4-1 versus chelsea in the cup. Had Malbranque not stopped that Sevilla ball from going wide and scooped it into our own net. Had King been fit. Had Levy not undermined him. Had Liverpool not scored that late equaliser at Anfield. Had Berbatov not been in a huff at the start of the season. Had Robinson got his head sorted. Had Keano not been such a waster that he can only score 20 odd goals a season. Things might have been very different.

But then... if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.

History will still record that:

We loved Martin Jol and Martin Jol loved us.

Those were the days....those were the days.....

Come on Ramos give us a few more 5-1's v ar5ena1 to cheer us up.

Absolute Legend, and it is testament to him that the already inflated spurs fans expectations are so high due to the excellent league finishes. It is a question as to whether he had the tactical nous to move us higher, but I will never forget what he did for the club.

Hope Juande does well, but in my eyes he has a lot to do to compare with Mr Jol (I am sure he will).

Levy made the wrong decision to sack Jol, what other chairman apart from the top 4 would sack there manager after 2 fifth place finishes.

Levy got too big headed u would think after 2 fifth places finishes in a row the chairman and the board would be like "what do u need to break into the top four what can we do to help you do this" instead he brings in the former Arsenal guy to fu*k things ups to some how assist the manager by bringing in a selection of players he picked for the manager to select.

Even in a interview with sky sports he was saying no one knew anything about Kaboul, Ekotto and KPB but everyone knew about Luka, Pav and Bentley and its true we all know the players Ramos got in were capable of playing well even if they wernt.

Look at the top 4, three of the clubs have one thing in common they all have owners who will allow them to splash the cash every year as they try to improve their squad none of them have people who telling them who to buy the may have opinions but im sure the manager knows best what player he would need to improve his team. then you have Wenger who always seems to get good players for good prices.

People saying Jol had taken us a far as he could you make it sound like we where always a top 5 team always challenging for that fourth place. Like u don't remember we where a just about a decent mid level team, before he took over :-|

Just think them Jol years could be some of the best premiership days some of us every remember from tottenham:shrug: now we have to start back from scratch and Harrys getting the treatment Jol should have got to try and break this top four. i just think that last season was the best chance to break into the top four, now all the teams around us are improving and really trying have a go at it.

Hope Harry does well he has a good set of players to work with to bring us where Levy expects us to be

Presumably only ones who want to get into the top four isn't that the point you have made.

Comolli didn't come in after two 5th place finishes.

Time to put it to bed now.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about MArtin Jol every 5 mins, I loved the guy as much as the next man while he was our boss and I was sad to see him leave.

However he has long gone, he is no longer connected to our club and it is time to focus on OUR CLUB and not people who USED to be with us.

I really think Martin Jol posts should be in general football forum now (yep even if he is talking about us)

Every time someone posts to complain it is no longer relevant it jumps to the top of the page again. If you don't want to discuss it, stay out of the thread. If you do want to live in the Spurs past then this thread is for you. I'll be watching Harry Redknapp's Blue and White Army myself!

See, I've just bumped it again :-(
