Yeah, forgot him (in a fraudian way I guess). To be fair (@Mullers ) he did chip in 6 goals and 2 assists from the minute equivalent of about 25 games, mostly from CM.
Yes but his performances have not been good enough neither do I think he is very creative. I was very surprised we bought him tbh.

But there is someone out there that can fit that creative center midfielder role, we had the money to spend.

Not so sure mucker, CM's who also score and assist as well as being defensively pretty sound are pretty rare. We had one called Jenas but everyone hated him because he wasn't Roy Keane (who hardly ever scored or assisted).

I can't say I'd seen anything of him except the pre WC tournament in Brazil. He came highly recommended though, had been his clubs most valuable player according to many (including Tim Vickory), as they won the Brazilian league and equivalent of SA Champions League.

Right idea, just hasn't lived up to the billing.

Not me, it wouldn't be as bad if Dembele or Paulinho was that good. Yes JJ was another frustating player because he could have been better than he was, Mourinho could see the potential he had.
All in all though his career with us was very good, part of a side who got two 5th places finishes and in our cup run he did excellent.

paulinho was never the right player.

i know he wasn't and still isn't the finished article but the one i couldn't believe we passed on(?) was kovacic, maybe it was so obvious we thought there must be a catch and let inter snap him up instead.

Poch on Mason

“He is better now. He’s lucky because the problem wasn’t bad. It’s possible he is ready for the next game.”

Would maybe give him only a place on the bench though. Not worth the risk. We need him badly when Bentaleb is in Africa.

I know you have specifically ruled out people saying Eriksen. But the answer is clearly Eriksen.

What we should have done is bought either Cabaye or Pjanic for roughly the same outlay. Had I been in charge with Baldini saying he wanted to help out his old club in financial trouble, I'd have bought Pjanic and spent considerably less to bring in Ljajic instead of Lamela, as we needed help at left wing at the time more than right wing (and also it'd have been considerably cheaper).

Cabaye would have been a great signing and I like Pjnaic very much too. Not sure Pjanic would have been so effective as a CM2 in the PL though, perhaps better in a more attacking role in the 4231??

Less ideally than Cabaye certainly, but he'd have done better than Paulinho did. We need a connector from deep, not the deepest lying striker in the world.

We were quite strongly linked with him, and then all the focus shifted to Halilovic. I remember saying in the Halilovic thread that he was an amazing talent but Kovacic was pretty decent, too, and we should focus on him as the truth was we would never get Halilovic. Even when him and Jed-Tin-fella were being reported as a done deal, I never really believed it would come off. So should have left eggs in Kovacic basket.
