The blame should go on Levy for the state of our squad.
Right....

He scouted the army of sh*t players we bought did he? How is that his remit?

We were playing (or deliberately excluding) plenty of players that, with equivalent money, would have made for a much, much, much better side - that's player selection, which is not his fault

Imagine having:
- c. 100m to revamp the midfield, instead of Lo Celso and Tanguy
- 100m to revamp the defence, instead of Doherty, Sanchez, Sess

It's the scouting/buying committee that's at fault - they've been utterly negligent.

I'm not, in any way joking, when I say: with that money a school kid, using FM as a basis for player purchases, would have done better

I mean I think the lineup today was done primarily out of necessity rather than design. Seemed pretty clear Lucas, Reggie, Emerson, and Skipp weren't fit enough to start. Dele, GLC, and Ndombele are out in the cold permanently now. So the only senior players fit enough to start were the 11 on the pitch, Joe Rodon, and Bryan Gil. He clearly doesn't trust Rodon and he probably thinks Gil isn't ready for a game like this. I'm not sure if any of us could have come up with a better formation than he did today. I'm sure he would have loved to name the same line up as last game (+ Dier and maybe Bergwijn), but that wasn't possible.
Mate, would you have gone to great lengths like this to justify the selection if this was Nuno? Hypothetical I know, but honest answer please

My mate supports Brighton so I've spent quite a lot of time following their escapades, and was especially interested in how they approached Chelsea, and outplayed them at the Bridge etc. In turn he's watched some of the Spurs games, and we've discussed the different approaches.

People here mention the quality of our squad as an issue, but to be honest the Brighton players as individuals aren't all that great [other than Bissouma and Lamptey]
So there's a bigger issue at play here, and it has to do partly with how we approach games. Brighton look to get on the front foot, and were not daunted by Chelsea. We have bottled all 4 games with low blocks and whatever, despite the evidence of Leicester first half etc.

So some of this has to be on Conte (as well as the kudos to Potter for getting average players to be comfortable on the ball, and passing bravely in midfield triangles etc.)
Great post! So many people remain deluded in thinking that selling a bunch of players and replacing with another bunch of players not wanted by their teams will improve us. We need a real plan and a real playing style. For me Conte gets a 0 for giving up before the game had started. Maybe he has a deal with Chelsea or is scared of the Russian gangsters

Yes. Absolutely. I’m not prone to knee-jerk reactions. I would have used the same logic to analyze Nuno’s selections. I don’t think I went to great lengths. That was pretty basic reality. We had barely anyone fit. Multiple journalists/twitteratti have supported that fact that Skipp/lucas/reggie/emerson were not fit to start. I guess if you want to criticize Conte for not playing dele/glc/ndombele, then go right ahead. I don’t have a problem with giving those three the cold shoulder. Honestly what would you have done differently with the players available?

I didn’t care for Nuno-ball, and I loathed the way we played under Jose. I’m not sure I love Conte-ball either. I miss the way we used to play under prime Poch. I wish we controlled games rather than looking to counter all the time. But I can absolutely see the progression this side has made under Conte. I think we are already a more entertaining side than we were a few months ago, and we’re certainly a better side. Conte knows how to win, and unlike Jose/Nuno he knows how to get buy in from his players. Feel free to criticize Conte for bad decisions (definitely should have pulled Tanganga at the half), but you are being unfair imo.

Lloris, Dier, Bergwijn and Kane were all fairly good.
The rest were pretty poor.
