Ekotto (MOM), Palacios and Dawson in that order.

I thought Modric, Lennon, Bale and Defoe were disappointing. We weren't too good in the final 3rd. First half was better than the second.

I don't think Defoe and Pavluychenko, despite our goal, should play together up front. They can become too isolated. VDV or Crouch with either Defoe or Pay, but not Pav and Defoe.

Essien and Cole were lucky not to get red-carded. Referee missed quite a few Chelsea infringements, some of which would have led to dangerous free kicks from around their penalty area. Chelsea filth, Terry, Drogba and Cole up to their usual tricks trying to intimidate the referee.

I made Wilson MOM today, but could just as easily have gone for Modders.

I thought Modric was disappointing today. Admittedly it's difficult with Defoe and Pav up front as these 2 can become a little isolated. I am big fan of Modric and there were glimpses of his genius but I thought it wasn't one of his better games.

Still can't keep a clean sheet however thought it was a deserved draw, with us abating a resurgent Chelsea and the referee not awarding clear free kicks in our favour it could have been a different result.

Gomes-7 Chelsea equalising goal will be at the forefront of peoples thoughts, that aside he was excellent and what an important penalty save...redeemed.

Hutton-7 Progressing but at times his defensive frailties kept resurfacing, lucky with a few lunging tackles.

Dawson-8 Good to have him back.

Bassong-7 Steady.

Assou-Ekotto-8 Excellent left back display not always help defensively by Bale.

Lennon-6 On off display, at times looking back to his best but not quite enough in the game, still needs to improve strikes on goal.

Palacios-8 Getting back to the Palacios we love.

Modric-8 The Master. Has undoubtedly proved he has the strength to play Centre Midfield.

Bale-6 Still learning at 22. Times over ran with the ball the balance between dribbles and one twos imo need to work on. Must say though that the players need to be much closer to Bale to give him more options.

Pavluychenko-6 Boy can finish! wonderful goal BUT still way to WEAK :-(

Defoe-6 Closed Chelsea defenders down well, good movement and a bit more strength the Pav.

Subs.
Sandro n/a
Keane-5 Hmmmm.

Redknapp-7 sticking to his principles of playing open attacking football.

What a game.

As people have stated BAE, Modric, Palacios were all outstanding.

I don't blame Gomes for the first goal. If you've ever played in goal you know those things can happen. Drogba has one hell of a strike on him. No excuses for the penalty mis hap, but he redeemed himself with the save.

I can't believe people thought Modric was disappointing today, and Pav fantastic. Pav had the game he usually has, nice movement, erratic control, WEAK as fuck, lovely classy goal. Before he scored I was spitting chips at the amount of ball he had wasted, after that his confidence really came on, but he still gets eased off the ball time and time again. I'd have given him a 7 certainly, but anything more is wishful thinking.

I'd love to see how much ground Modric covered today, because he was bloody everywhere. After one of the runs forward he looked dead on his feet (about 20 mins left). I thought the game was crying out for Sandro, someone to give Wilson and Modric some support.

With two wingers and two forwards, we ask too much of the CM. That was a good Chelsea side out there, and I liked hitting them on the break in the first half, but when we needed to change to 4-5-1 to tie things up a bit we simply kept on with this open game that is doing nothing for my heart. It might have worked out OK if Gomes hadn't made a mistake (how anyone can defend him for that I have no idea, it was hit right at him) but other than that I thought he played well, and I thought they were going to score sooner or later. VDV would have been perfect for today.

Gomes-6-At fault for the goal, but was otherwise quite good with his punches with a good save from Drogba, a great one from Palacios and some good punches.

Hutton-7.5-Very good, kept Malouda mostly out of it maybe a bit better decision making when attacking would be nice.

Dawson-7-Glad he's back, solid.

Bassong-7-Played well, let Anelka past him that once but saved himself.

Assou-Ekotto-9-fantastic, best he's played.

Lennon-7-dangerous running from deep in the first half but offer as much when pinned back in the second.

Modric-7.5-worked hard and was dangerous, maybe could have positioned himself a little better when hassling.

Palacios-8-really good, if that header wasn't saved by Gomes he'd be looking pretty silly though.

Bale-6-A bit of a right foot would be nice

Defoe-6.5-Lively and made some good runs, not sure what we wanted him to do suited him too well.

Pav-6-good goal but not much else.

Crouch-5-not the best match from him

Very good performance by both teams today, it could have easily been a win for either side as both defended well with a few good chances.

Gomes.... 6. Should have saved the goal, don't think he was expecting the amount of power Drogba put on it, but a keeper's gotta get behind a shot like that. Can't criticise him for the penalty conceding, more of a collision than a foul, not sure it would have been a foul if it had been elsewhere on the pitch. Nevertheless redeemed with a cracking penalty save and some good saves earlier in the half too.

Hutton: 7 Got forward well and wasn't bad defensively. Could have done better with a couple of his passes after getting in decent positions and a few challenges could have been nasty fouls on another day.

Dawson: 8 Incredible performance considering he hasn't played a match for three months. Dominant in the air and great positioning. Drogba gave him some problems but he does that to a lot of defenders. I don't think you can criticise him too much for Drogba's goal - Drogba was both leaning on him and handling it. Considering the time he was out, a great performance today.

Bassong: 7.5 Good. Great intervention in the first half to flick it away for a corner.

Benoit Assou Ekotto: 9, possibly even 9.5. This was the epitome of a class left back performance. Benoit was everywhere today, he really brought his A game. Switched on at every opportunity, great interceptions, tackling and dribbling under pressure, and a couple of great passes. Really couldn't ask much more of him today.

Lennon: 7 - some good movement, got past his defender a lot. If our strikers had been sharper, he could have made more of an impression.

Palacios: 8 - getting back to what we knew. The cheering for him a couple of weeks ago really seems to have given him a lift and he was back to his prowling panther impression, waiting to strike and take the ball.

Modric : 8 - I thought Luka made the midfield his territory today. Was always tracking back, working really hard and made some excellent runs and passes. If he can keep this standard up, he's going to meet a team on their bad day and absolutely destroy them, like he did at Stoke last year.

Bale: 6 Quiet today, Ferreira did a great job against him for most of the game. Again, like Lennon he made some good runs and a few good balls and if our strikers had been sharper he might have got something from it.

Pavyluchenko 7. Incredible goal but another frustrating performance. Just doesn't dominate enough to be a great premiership striker, but still gives us that air of unpredictability we don't get with Defoe, Crouch or Keane.

Defoe 6 not much happening with defoe today.

Subs

Crouch 5 Thought Crouch was poor today, won most of the balls punted up to him but didn't direct them anywhere useful. Too predictable to be effective against the better defenders.

Keane 5 Nothing much here either. We really need a new striker.

Sandro n/a

Harry 7 Good tactics, decent subs, a very good performance against a team who are still one of the best in the world. If Gomes had saved that shot, I think we would have won.

Gomes 6 should never be beaten like that for the goal, redeemed himself with a great penalty save and a fantastic save from the Palacios header. Was pretty good with crosses on the whole.

Hutton 8 thought he was excellent, in the first half he did very well against Malouda. Some crunching tackles and drove forward really well. A really tenacious and energetic performance from our number one right back - he has me convinced now, if he keeps this sort of form up.

Dawson 7 won nearly everything in the air and generally I thought he did very well considering this was his first game back and given the level of the opposition. Unlucky for the goal but understandably was feeling the pace in all likelihood.

Bassong 7 lovely recovery on Anelka, handled Drogba well too. Another good performance and suddenly at CB (when most return) we have an embarrassment of riches.

Ekotto 8 some stunning defensive work on show. Cool and composed when in tricky situations and of course some exceptional interceptions. Read the game brillantly.

Lennon 6 his pace caused them real problems, one brillant bit of play in the first half but was a bit hesitant on a couple of occasions when numerous options were availabile - perhaps the movement ahead could of been better.

Palacios 8 best performance of the season by a country mile. Worked ever so hard and made some great tackles, kept it nice and simple, passed the ball well and we would probably of lost that game without him. Utter commitment and determination on show.

Modric 8 a real silky performance from the little magician. Popping up everwhere, dropping the shoulder and gliding through midfield. Some wonderful touches and he controls the flow of our play so well.

Bale 6 I was expecting him to have a bigger impact against Ferriera but perhaps thats part of the problem - expectation. Not his best performance by a long stretch but was always a threat with his directness and pace.

Pav 6 great goal, bloody lovely. Movement was ok but he wasn't involved enough after the goal and in the second half he got bundled off the ball too easily...great goal though - thats Pav!

Defoe 6 the threat of getting in behind was always there, nice ball for Pav and he did drop back at points to help out. Had a nice effort just wide that would of topped a lovely move in the second half

Crouch - 6

Keane and Sandro...n/a

MOM for me could be any of Hutton, Palacios, Ekotto or Modric.

I'll go Ekotto.

Wilson 8 .........put in twice as much effort as anyone else and his passing was fantastic
Benny and Luka 7.5
The rest 7

The ref.......bent bastard..... 0

what did Mike Dean do that so upset you? He may have gotten the foul on Bale wrong in the the first half but all in all I thought he had a good game and is one of the few officials that have been consistent and fair this season.

I'm finding it really hard to suck out any collective positives from that game. Another ludicrously open affair, the only saving grace was that Chelsea, despite dominating most of the game were almost as shit as we were in the final third.

The decision to play Pav and Defoe baffles me. I know they combined for the goal, but time after time every move broke down because of these two's inability to hold onto the ball. Every time we played a ball up to them it just came bouncing back.

On the break we had some really fantastic positions (I lost count how many) and opportunities to punish them and every single time they were wasted due to Defoe, Pavlyuchenko, Lennon and even Bale. The first three were the biggest culprits though. All three were guilty of failing to use the modicum of guile or intelligence that could have given us a vital goal, and every opportunity was pissed away.

I just couldn't understand why Redknapp was sat there watching Chelsea dominate the middle of the pitch so comprehensively, whilst Defoe touched the ball 6 (yes, six) in the whole game. Defoe & Pav should have been yanked off after 60 mins and Sandro & Crouch put in there in an attempt to get some control of the ball in midfield and hold it up up front. We can push Modric into the VDV zone and kill two birds with one stone. Achieve some midfield control and put Modric into the zone where he can hurt the opposition.

Our best player was Palacios, even though Chelsea were pretty inept when the got to our box, I'm pretty sure if he wasn't playing we'd have got turned over.
I also thought Hutton and Ekotto put in excellent shifts. Modric, Dawson and Bassong all did ok.

It was an individual error that cost us three points but ultimately it was the type of lazy, poorly coached football we have been playing, and played today, our poor in game tactics, and Defoe, Lennon & Pav that cost us any chance of getting a result.

What disappoints me most, is that I think Chelsea weren't that good either and if we'd just played better football instead of this stupid lottery bullshit we could have beat them today.

Ratings:

Gomes 5 - I love the big guy, but he didn't really have that much to do today but what he did, he got horribly wrong. Penalty save only cancelled out his mistake.

Hutton 7.5 - Excellent game, grit & energy.

Dawson 7 - Dawson and Bassong were pretty well protected by Palacios and Chelsea were also a bit insipid when the got anywhere near our box so it was mostly dealing with the odd cross which both did perfectly well. I honestly can't decide how culpable he was in the build up to the goal. It was a slightly mistimed challenge and he also reacted just that split second slower than Drogba as well. BUt Drogba is the best striker in the EPL and I've seen bully goals like this many times. Good performance either way.

Bassong 7 - One great saving tackle on Anelka, good game. As above.

Ekotto 7.5 - Excellent game. Worked hard and defended well.

Lennon 5.5 - Wasted so many good positions with poor decisions.

Palacios 8 - Thank fuck he was out there.

Modric 7.5 - Tried hard, but time after time we are seeing a compromised Modric. He works his nuts nuts off, but he's no busy ****. When he gets the ball in their third you just feel something could happen, but his role in the side limits those moments. With VDV out we have the perfect opportunity to push Modric up.

Bale 6 - Tried at times, but as with others he made some poor choices, and some of them weren't difficult. Sometimes he has to give it simple, he has to vary his play so the defender doesn't always know what he's going to do. He's learning his trade, and wingers will always be a bit erratic, and he did seem to help Ekotto a little better today.

Pavlyuchenko 6 - It was a superb piece of strikers play that made a goal out of not much, and he did contribute a lot more general play than Defoe, but I still find him very disappointing.

Defoe 4 - 6 touches of the ball in an hour. This is just not acceptable for a player at this level. BUllied out of good positions. If we sold him and Keane as a job lot, the buyers still wouldn't be getting a whole striker.

Crouch 5 - Worked hard.

Gomes 5 - Some good saves, but let the goal through him and gave away the pen unnecessarily.

Hutton 7 - Played well, perhaps a few wrong decisions going forward, but none in defence.

Dawson 8 - It's like he hasn't been away. Gotta love Captain Daws.

Bassong 7.5 - Did well when needed, a few heart-in-mouth moments, but coped well.

Ekotto 9 - Superb. I'd love to see someone come on here and try and question his passing again. MOM.

Lennon 6.5 - Look dangerous at times, but just not enough.

Palacios 9 - He's back, he's really fucking back! Animal today. Up there with Benny for MOM.

Modric 8 - Played well in there against the narrow Chelsea midfield.

Bale 6 - Not his best game lately - the man is human after all.

Pavlyuchenko 7 - Great finish for the goal, but first touch and decision making still frustrates. Much better from Pav though, much better.

Defoe 7 - Getting sharper. Will be banging them in again soon. Great ball for Pav's goal.

Crouch 6 - I was confused when Harry bought him on for Defoe.

Keane & Sandro - n/a no time

Gomes 5 - Cost us the points ultimately.

Hutton 7
- Got stuck in, some good moments, some frustrating moments - SHOOT!
Dawson 7 - Did well on his comeback
Bassong 7 - Looked good again
Ekotto 8 - I said after the Twente game that he'd be brilliant against Chelsea, love him

Lennon 6.5 - Lively, but wasteful today
Palacios 8 - Getting back to the 'old' Wilson
Modric 7 - Battled well, couldn't quite have the same impact as he does usually
Bale 6 - Was closed down so quickly, needs to adapt to this

Pav 6 - Excellent goal, looked SO weak though, knocked off the ball easily.
Defoe 6 - Ran the channels well, good pass for the goal. Went missing in the 2nd half a bit

--------------

Crouch 5
- Why did we bring him on? Really poor substitution for me, pretty much gave the game away from this point on imo. I know Harry likes rep of being fearless and adventurous but we needed to get a hold of the ball, bringing on Sandro would've helped far more than Crouch

Keane 5 - Another strange sub for me
