I think the early closure of the English window will really hurt us on this one. Madrid won't want to go forward with any move until the situation with Modric is clarified. I doubt that will happen in the next three days and if not it'd rule us out.

It would be just our luck if we were in a strong position to sign a player of this quality only to be unable to complete the deal due to a one-off difference in the timing of the English and European transfer windows. Fingers crossed Kovacic is pressing the issue now specifically with a move to England in mind, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I seriously doubt Modric is going anywhere.

Surely his agent is smart enough to realize this with our window closing shortly.

Positive view - He goes on strike now to force a move to a team in England.

The negative spin, it's to Pep and City.

It's getting exciting, isn't it?

As exciting as a funeral with an alcoholic aunt who thinks goosing the vicar at the vestibule is the height of humour
Oh, she'll slip him a finger and everyone will chuckle at his Kenneth Williams face.

I'd very much love for this to be the CM we all want. This is classic transfer window stuff until someone comes in to piss in the cornflakes and we can all move back to the Grealish thread.

Kinda agree with a couple of the others here. Especially as Rebrab suggested Lobotka was the mystery CM. Could be different to JJs guy but still.

The fact he's potentially on the market is certainly interesting. We better be looking at him seriously.

No, I want to get excited about this but I need a little scrap of something...
For what it’s worth we did enquire last year according to his agent at the time. So we were interested. There is an article with quotes out there but it would require digging. Beyond that I guess people are just putting Gards mentioning him twice on Twitter as a good buy with the news of him missing training.

This has got to be about the longest transfer thread in SC history about a player that we don’t even have a tenuous half-link to...

Not entirely convinced. Trading one stacked to the gunnels club in terms of personnel, but where you win trophies, for another one doesn’t seem entirely logical for him at this point.
We've thought this many times. The truth is we have no idea what others are saying to him. For example Pep may be sweetening him up telling him that he will be his main midfielder and that he's got huge plans for him, if it's convincing enough then he could well join.

No chance we haven't at least asked about him, I just can't believe we would have asked last year and not this year when he is actively asking for a move.
