There is a potential logic to this.

Europa League qualification is worth money to Villarreal. So if there is a secret deal, it could be to keep MM until they qualify for Europe and then sell him quickly after the trip to Kazakhstan. In this hypothesis, the European game is more important than the La Liga one.

Most of the ITK suggested Villarreal were holding out for more money, and this is a way that they could potentially get some more cash in. Pure speculation of course.

Love the optimism.

I would be surprised if he has signed a new contract and Villarreal haven't announced it with all of the transfer speculation surrounding him and him being on the bench today.

Did they say why it hasn't been announced yet?
No, Balague said that we were interested but Villareal had renewed his contract and was happy to stay!

Didn't really have a good explanation for him being on the bench though....

Based on kit numbers, looks like they rested a number of starters

Too bad if he signed a new contract, but I had kind of moved on from this one, and by the looks of things, everyone else had too - Spurs set a deadline, it was not met, they moved onto Fazio, Musacchio had nowhere to go but sign a new deal.

Only him and one other were changed from Thursday

If Dier keep developing as fast as he's done so for then he can have saved Levy £20M + on Mussaschio. Yes, I know Dier is young and he will have his ups and downs and sooner or later oppostion will figure out his weak points etc etc - and not signing Mussachio can/will add to his chances of developing even faster (as it will give him more 1st team games).
