Because he is good. He captained THFC and played for England and at least 3 managers want to spend several MILLION pounds for his services.

Dawson was present in 13 of our 14 clean sheets last season. He is definitely a good player, I doubt anyone that's a real fan would genuinely argue otherwise. Whether we need an upgrade or not is a different question.

I thing regardless of if someone things Dawson is good or bad where everyone would probably agree is that his abilities are sadly declining. That's the real issue, it's not that he was always poor or always fantastic, he's being sold because he's getting worse. He's 31 in a few months, this was always going to happen and will to any player so I don't think anyone should be feeling too vindicated here.

He was also present (the only CB that was) in every single one of our humiliating defeats.
He's only a "good" player by relative standards. Compared to CB's in lower divisions or non league football he's good. Compared to CB's that most of the teams above/around us have, he is not "good".

Oh, poor him. How many millions of pounds has he made off of us in that time? He's not doing it for free. "10 years of service" as if he was doing it out of the kindness of his heart FFS.
I love him as a person, but people need to stop painting him as some sort of hero for playing for us. He's lucky to have played for us, but I'm grateful for the effort he's put in. I'll wish him well wherever he goes, and if I see him in the street I'll give him a handshake and buy him a can of Lilt.
I won't try and castigate our fans for not wanting him to play for us anymore, though.
