I think perhaps some of the Australian press/agents are bumping Matty up a little, while he is seen as a definite talent he is not our International number 2 and there are a range of keepers ahead of him ( coe, frederici, langerak etc ) for that role and seen as potential future no.1's. For that reason I do wonder if he may struggle with his working papers. We seem to be going through a bit of a dry period at the moment with our national talent coming through but keepers is one thing we seem to be able to pop out. When Matty has gotten into the national team its when we play the local based players rather than the international based players which occurs is the less serious friendlies or ones wherein which clashes with player schedules might occur.

Considering the price players leave here for I can seem him, if he can get a permit being a real bargain still. Maybe a year or two developing at the club and fitting our standards then a loan to the championship to test his skills. Even if it doesn't work it will be a great experience for a young Australian player which will give him a big stepping stone is his career if it doesn't work out at spurs.

I agree. I often think that great young talents should stay in their home leagues to mature, but given the quality of the A-League it would probably be beneficial for him to come over here, even if it is just to start out on loans to lower league clubs.

Looks like a promising talent, but then again it's almost sunday league football. Speaking of that, Today I watched some domestic football, the Norwegian Tippeligaen. Dreadful stuff, makes Stoke look exotic and exciting to watch. Can't wait till the new PL season starts!

Young Australian goalkeeper Mathew Ryan remains hopeful of landing a deal with English Premier League club Tottenham as he nears the end of a week-long trial.

Aussies Abroad - July 2012

Named A-League keeper of the season for 2011-12, the Central Coast Mariners star has further trials with West Bromwich Albion and Wigan Athletic to come after he concludes his time with Spurs this week.
"Mat has done well this week at Spurs and the feedback he has received has been very positive," Ryan's agent Warren Craig told AAP.
"His trial will finish tomorrow and then we will discuss with the club if they wish to take things further."
The 20-year-old will leave London to head to the midlands for his trial with West Brom before the last stop in England's north-west at Wigan.
Barring a deal being completed before Ryan departs, the youngster will return for pre-season training at the Mariners where he still has a year to run on his contract.

Just seen Youtube compilation of Ryan. Looks promising. Showed very good positioning and distribution. Worth a punt certainly.
