Conte also sees versatile Burnley star Maxwell Cornet as an option. The 25-year old signed a five year deal at Turf Moor last summer for an initial £10.2million. But he also has a £15million clause in his contract which became active once the club were relegated on Sunday.

Cornet looked great for a while in AM/ST position, don't remember him as a LB but his stats with Lyon are pretty good.

I wasn't that impressed when we played them, but know's where the net is. From Burnley I'd take McNiel (rate him highly) and tarkovski (sp?) (Squad depth)

Hmm, would be a great depth signing to be honest. Can do a job in any of the front 3 roles and has experience playing LWB too. Not opposed.

Bollocks - He’s from Cote D’Ivoire. Totally ruined my French Horn joke.

Think I got one of these from the freezer at an all inclusive hotel.

Who? I watched Burnley twice this season. He didnt make an impression on me or else I would have noticed him. I honestly didnt hear about him until this thread

I really like him for his versatility, he would provide good cover in both forwards and wingback positions.

He scored 9 goals (most of them bangers) for struggling Burnley this season, the same amount that Lucas Moura has in the league over the last three seasons.

I was always aware of him at Lyon but I don't think he's the quality we want now, a bargain at £15 mil for someone but not for us. We don't ought to be shopping in the closing down sales anymore we should be looking up west.

He can cover about 4/5 positions so as a squad option might not be a bad shout. Would hope he’s not the LWB target though. Would be taking Bergwijn’s place in the squad if true I guess.

Would rather keep Bergwijn to be honest, but if he wants to leave then yes he will need to be replaced

I dont see him as an upgrade on what we have to be honest. We need to look to improve on all positions not just fill squad spaces. If anyone then Tarkowski from Burnley as he's on a free, HG and has always done well in a tough team o play for - not as a starter necessarily but as a replacement for a Sanchez or Tanganga possibly. Not essential but otherwise i'd keep away from Burnley.

So…

Don’t sign Cornet as he’s not a starter, but sign Tarkovski, but not as a starter!!??

Difference is Tarkowski would be an upgrade on tanganga for instance albeit as a squad player (and free) where as cornet would probably not be an upgrade on regilion sess, son or bergy who he’d be competing with in the squad

Debatable. I’m not trusting of any defender that plays in deep low block where all they’re asked to do is defend and their weaknesses are covered. Tanganga for instance has looked at his best when we’ve played the likes of City where it’s a backs to the wall job. It’s when he has to play he struggles. Not seen anything to suggest Tarkowski would be any different.

I’m not sure you’ve seen Cornet play this season. He’s been excellent.
