I'd be very surprised if this was called off as the situation stands. Sometimes the best thing you can do is, dare I say it, keep calm and carry on.

Agreed.

I know this is a tad inappropriate and forgive me for saying it, but Im sure Stoke wouldn't mind it being called off as they played this afternoon.

The only way I see it being called off is if he's pronounced dead on Wednesday. Hopefully that won't happen but if it did, it just might affect our players a bit too much, even though they probably should go ahead with it anyway.

Give me a fucking break.

I am upset at what happened yesterday, and I desperately hope that Mr. Muamba makes a complete recovery, but why does he world have to stop? Perhaps we should all take the week off work due to post traumatic stress disorder because we were at the ground or saw it live on TV.

If somebody (as we all have) is unfortunate enough to suffer a bereavement, they take a few days compassionate leave. I don't think friends and colleagues do.

It's like when Princess Diana died and there was a state of media-led mass hysteria. You don't have to behave like that just because the media tells you to.

On the other hand, perhaps I'm being cruel and heartless. Why don't we just cancel the FA Cup, the Premier League, the Champions League and the Olympics now. Then we can all wallow in self-pity for the next few months with not a hint of a moral dilemma.

I agree with you to a certain extent. I don't think we have even raised it. It looks like Stoke are looking to approach us and if so, I'm sorry, but it smacks of anterior motive.

We need to just get one with it, we don't want to make the Lane a place of sadness, we need to restore order.

I cannot see many of that XI wanting to play a football match Wednesday especially If FM is still in a critical condition

I would be very surprised if we play Wednesday

Agree. If he's not totally fine by say tomorrow, then a lot of the players will be thinking, 'that could be me' and certainly won't be in the right frame of mind for playing...

This only applies to our players, who were on the pitch at the time. It has got 4/5ths of fuck all to do with Stoke.

EDIT - by 'fine' I mean that we are told by the hospital/BWFC that he is going to live.

I don't know about you, but when I've suffered bereavements or been deeply concerned about the health and well-being of a loved one I have a habit of throwing myself into my work. I'm probably more focussed during those times than at any other period because the last thing I want to do is dwell on stuff I have no control over.

You're right of course...plenty won't want to play on Wednesday. However for some of them it might be preferable to sitting at home pondering the situation.

It's a difficult subject to discuss. Players react in different ways. Personally I thought both Defoe and Palacios clearly under-performed on the pitch due to personal tragedies (completely understandable). Robinson's drop in form seemed to happen when the issues with his son occured as well. Whereas VDV's wife's cancer didn't seem to affect his performance on the pitch. Obviously it was a deeply traumatic period for him, but he handled it differently.

There are no right or wrong ways to go about this, but personally I think things need to carry on as normal. Everything that deviates from that merely emphasises the tragic situation, and I don't think that is helpful for anyone concerned.

True, however I'm sure a lot of people who went to the game and witnessed the events will have to go to work on Monday morning. Football is their profession, I think they should try and be strong and play the game personally. If they can't do it they can't do it, but I think it should go ahead if possible.

For this reason, I would imagine that we should administer heart screenings to our players to assure them that their hearts are healthy, otherwise this thought may be in the back of their mind when they should be focused on the game.

I'm not an expert, but I'm quite sure that an EKG would have diagnosed most if not all heart problems that would lead a 23 year old to suffer cardiac arrest, I'm surprised that all footballers don't get such screenings before signing for a club.

I would have thought heart screenings were part of the medical when joining the club, especially considering this is not the first such incident.

If things remain the same, I think the game will be played.

However, and we pray this does not happen, if the worst happens before Wednesday I think it would be understandable our game was called off.

In fact I think the Premier League would perhaps consider canceling all midweek fixtures if the worst should happen Tuesday/Wednesday.

Let's just hope it doesn't come to that hey!

Before reading it I was thinking Tony Pulis you ****, seeing it as almost a win win situation if the game is moved but I don't think that's the case. It may be a slight thought at the back of his head but he just seemed concerned and stated that he will just ask Harry, he didn't try to influence our decision in any way by saying we should postpone or anything.

The most important thing is that we hear some positive news regarding FM but I really hope this game goes ahead also, just to kind if put this all behind us too.

Just think the onus is on us to bring it up, not Stoke.

I agree with the poster that said the game should go ahead, unless of course the unthinkable happens.

I'd prefer it was cancelled to be honest with you, I cannot see how our players will play in the right frame of mind a few days after what has happened, regardless of FW's condition.

I think this will favour Stoke completely, after all we still have a CL place / FA Cup to play for, maybe postponement is for the best all round.

I don't agree. If Fabrice deteriorates (pray he doesn't) come the end of the week do we look to cancel the Chelsea game as well?

I had a Chelsea fan tell me yesterday ( funnily enough after the FA draw had been made ) that we should hand the game to Bolton as a popularity game! And that he would expect Chelsea to do the same!

I said "that's your personal opinion though...and I have to say I wouldn't expect Spurs to do that anyway....what happen last night was so sad..if it had been a premiership game then I would imagine that the FA would leave the result as it was....but this is a cup game....and if you think that'swhat Spurs should.do...you might as well just award the cup to Bolton."
