Would people really want to be so desperate for Messi to be in the PL that they wouldn't mind him going to any of our competitors?

I read somewhere that it was Maradonna who said that. He must be again high on drugs.

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/football-maradona-messi-bayern-end-football-075205448--sow.html

The Argentine legend, who played for Barcelona and who managed Messi as Argentina coach, said that Barca as a club had completely changed its identity in recent years and nothing could be ruled out.

"I really believe that today Messi could be wearing another shirt," Maradona told German paper Bild.

"Before, the power of Barcelona's officials was so strong that they didn't even allow an advertisement on their shirt. But today they have Qatar Airways.

"If Barcelona allow advertising on their shirt why couldn't Messi play for Bayern?"

Bayern Munich are looking to win their second consecutive treble of league, cup and European Cup, with the Bundesliga title wrapped up earlier this week.

And the Bavarian giants have already secure a pre-contract agreement to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski in the summer - though if manager Pep Guardiola was ever reunited with Messi at Bayern, Maradona says all other teams could give up straight away.

"That would be the end of football," said Maradona.

"Lewandowski and Messi added to the team they already have? Then everyone else would play for second place. In every competition, in every league.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's interesting that he should even hypothesise about it (although his reasoning seems strange), and realistically speaking, Bayern are probably the only club in the world who could afford him whilst still fitting in with FFP, and who could actually be seen as an upwards move. Plus Guardiola. If he did do it, they were be truly unstoppable. Still, seems unlikely

Not sure he got on that well with The Zlatan did he? Doubt he's going anywhere, unless of course he does move to Dortmund for nothing, which would just put a bit fat awesome cherry on top of him being a great football eccentric.
I doubt he would go for free, he isn't that sort of player only to Newells, would he do that
Messi has history with Mourinho, could never see him playing for him.

I very much doubt he will be going anywhere but if he did then City or most likely Bayern would be my bet.
PSG and City probably the only two clubs that can afford him

Bollocks Bollocks ....

4 yr 400,000 euro a week contract on table which he will sign shortly.

Bartomeu said he can stay for life... Jorge Messi his Dad says Leo owes Barca for all they've done for him.. Leo stated a zillion times want to stay at Barca for rest of his career would only leave if Barca didn't want him and then only to Newells.

No Barca president and certainly not Bartomeu will let leo leave. There would mocio de censuras and all sorts instantly the president would be voted out of office...

Top foreigners never really came here until the league was awash with dough.

They have a real chance in the CL. Better than Barca over 38 games? No. Can they be better than Barca over two legs or a one off game? Of course.
I actually think Real are going to win the CL this year.

Think real are going to win f all just like last yr...

Well it’s a F’n old thread but might as well as use it as the title is perfect.

With only 4 months left on his contract it’s Time to start the debate, where do we think he’s going?

Betting man would say Man City. Everything is in place for it to happen and they have the finances to do it. PSG have been sniffing too, but for some odd reason I have a feeling they would prefer Ronaldo for a couple years.

Let’s see some thoughts.

Neymar is desperate to play with messi again - very public courting. Poch as coach now too might have some sway.

I think Messi will take the easier league and guaranteed trophies in France. He’s be choosing between the best two teams in the world right now...

Fantasy football here I know, but if Mbappe goes to Real and PSG have some money to burn they could probably make all our dreams come true and sign CR and Messi. One on a free and the other for a very low transfer fee.

If not, I’d prefer Messi to go to PSG anyway. We don’t need City getting any stronger.

I know this is going to sound strange but I kind of want him to go to city.

If he goes to psg, I won't bother watching him but in England I will see him play more.

As a neutral I don't really enjoy city play that much, Messi will change that. It was a joy to see him play against spurs (even though he tore us to pieces).

I know it's kind of anti spurs, but entertainment wise I would love to see him in the pl.

City’s the only PL club i want him at(besides us of course). I dont know why but I find them tolerable, IMO. I hate them but I can tolerate there success far more than anyone else’s in the league. Well also the likely MLS move after means nyc could be the destination & if i can just take the 4 train up to Yankee Stadium to watch the greatest football player ever, you are god damn right I am going to do so.

At the same time, Messi in any other shirt besides Barca would just look weird
