Does Holtby have the defensive quality's though? Yeah we all know Holtby buzzes around putting effort in, but Badelj's defensive stats have been amongst the best in Europe for the last 2 years.
Badelj gets dribbled past alot. Infact he is right up there in all of europes top league for players easily dribbled past. just saying

Not Spurs related, but tells you what he's available for.

Sevilla admitted they had reached an agreement with HSV for Badelj for 4.5m euros (Badelj's contract runs out 30.06.2015). But they couldn't come to personal terms with the player.

Now Fiorentina is reported to be pursuing a deal.

So anyway, at least you know what price he's going at. Some may be interested.

Fantastic price for a player of his quality.

I wish our midfield wasn't as crowded as it is or I'd want to jump all over this.

Hell I want to jump all over this anyway!

I wonder how much he's asking if Sevilla couldn't come to terms.

According to the report out of Spain, Badelj (or his agents) were looking to get to what Trochowski and Gameiro earn, apparently the two players with the highest salaries at the club. I don't know what that is, but can't imagine it being something extraordinary (relatively speaking). Certainly not something most EPL clubs wouldn't be able to burden.

Wow, surprised to hear Trochowski is earning high wages. He's actually one of my favourite players, but I was under the impression he doesn't get a whole lot of game time over there, at least not in the starting lineup, and isn't particularly rated

I spend some time on Hamburg boards as I've taken a keen interest in them, and this is also what they've been saying there. HSV doesn't really want to sell him, but considering they need the funds and have quite a few midfielders, they certainly will. I've no doubt we could afford his wages, but we'd certainly have to sell one of Paulinho or Dembele to make such a move. He'd also undoubtedly enjoy playing in a side which would free him up to considerably less defensive duties. He was hardly a DLP this past year, as he was forced to defend considerably more considering they don't have another genuine defensive mid and they ended up in the midst of a relegation scrap.

Tbh, I'm a massive Badelj fan, but I'm not sure he could handle the speed of the Prem without some intensive speed training. The lad is frustratingly slow despite his extremely well-balanced midfield abilities.

I think a lot of that goes down to the fact that he was brought in as a free transfer. Enticed him with a good salary and "saved" in what they would have otherwise had to pay in a transfer fee. He started ok there, but I think injuries have plagued him.

Badelj's agent today denied any discussions with Fiorentina and said that the player may play out the last year of his contract at HSV, but added:

"He has a release clause with the Hamburg scheduled between 3-5m euros. Who wants to can go to Germany and pay its clause. Again he has a one-year contract with Hamburg, but anything can happen. "

Hamburg have several players on contract that end next year, I think they would be mental to let all their contracts slide. They did it with Rincon just this year as well. Great way to lose money.

According to Bild, FC Seville management might submit Hamburg a 6 million euros offer in order to purchase Croatian international central midfielder Milan Badelj (25), who's currently on a deal with Hamburg until June 2015. Playing for Bundesliga side since 2012/13, former Dinamo Zagreb player might have his own deal with them extended in the end

The Hamburg fans are talking as if he's most likely to depart. They do need the money as they have midfielders, but need another CB and a striker since Lasogga's health is up in the air and Rudnevs has been wank in preseason.
