If the club had a shred of decency they'd get this wrapped up in the next 10 minutes.

Man got his granddaughter all weekend, birthday party for her and daughter to boot.

I can't keep F5 ing this mofo, 48 HRS of Garfield on loop starts in 5...4...3

I'd gladly take Rudiger on loan for a season if that's who Jose wants, especially if Skriniar is too pricey.

But if Rudiger is purchased for say a package of 45m (25m fee and 20m contract), I cant get my head around us not paying Inter what they apparently want which is 45m plus add ons.

Which isn't far off 20m extra.

Levy even said 20m isn't much. Would be abit odd.

No way we loan Rüdiger developing a Chelsea player. Adding to that a player that most of our fan base hate.

I would say he was more reliable when he worked for the BBC as back then he could only really report fact not gossip.

Now he works for The Athletic I wouldn't say they hold the same reporting standards.

He undoubtably will have contacts from his BBC days though. Just saying he doesn't have to report so stringently now.

Where has he said this is it in a paywalled article?
Ornstein: “Tottenham are Rudiger’s preferred destination. His complaint about being racially abused during Chelsea’s 2-0 win there last December is not a factor and will not put him off. The north London club had looked at Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan. That is all but over so the Chelsea man is their main target.”

To be honest it’s a bit of a throwaway comment in a pretty big article and “all but over” is far from definitive. Things change by the hour at this point in the window. I remember Ornstein going from “Dybala is happening” to “Dybala is off” in the space of 45 minutes.

Relax, people. No way is this deal off yet. It’s merely that we’re approaching the endgame. Both clubs applying the squeeze. It may or may not get done. But, as per the most reliable journalists and itk, the negotiations will definitely still be ongoing.
Totally agree with this on the proviso that he really is our preferred and maybe only choice. We can be ballsy. If we have a back up plan then it needs to be put into place sooner rather than later. A deadline is a deadline after all. Before the deadline we will need to change direction to proceed. At what point is this deemed to have been reached?

My take on it is that there have been talks of further negotiations this weekend. Imo this is crunch time and not before. Just hearsay and posturing.

That happened when we signed Lamela. Roma wouldn’t sell until they got his replacement, which was Adem Ljajic from Fiorentina. And Fiorentina wouldn’t sell him until they got his replacement which was Ante Rebic from Split. Once Rebic went to Fiorentina all the transfers happened like dominos over the next few days ?
But how did Split replace Rebic?

Saturday morning clicks - if you consider the two teams mooted other than us - one being a team supposedly not keen on a defender similar to him and a team that supposedly has to sell to buy ...

Any way, i'd rather we not waste the cash on Rudiger, we have enough of same level players, we've had a hard enough time shifting players out without getting stuck with another one.

If the player wants to come and the player is allowed to leave and the difference in valuation is 10-15m..

I'm not sure why this can't get done.

Developing a Chelsea player give me a break he is a German international and would improve us. If it is a loan so be it if it gets us our ambitious this season. With regards to the racist accusations if he felt he heard something he did nothing wrong in reporting it. It was investigated and unproven does not mean it did not happen.

£10-15 million is quite a big difference. We have already spent a hell of a lot more than I thought we would this window, and we haven’t shifted any of our dead wood yet.

He said he heard something and saw people or someone do the chimpanzee getures, the video footage was looked at exhaustively by the club and by the police they said there was nothing on the video which is a little bit more than unproven, it means it didn't happen even if he thought he saw it.
I don't want him anywhere near my club, whether we like it or not too many supporters won't accept him so it's not worth the risk, it's not like he's so good it's worth taking a chance on either.

But its not if your spending 15m less on Rudiger. The two players are a class apart. Skriniar would be a game changer.

I'd go as far to say as he'd guarantee us CL (imo). So 15m is a minimal outlay. I'd argue Skriniar has more potential and re-sale value than Rudiger. So again, spending 15m more....

Whilst I'm incredibly pleased with the work done to this squad this summer, I won't be able to hide my disappointment if we weren't able to get Skriniar.

Because we were evidently close and that makes it gutting.

Think @nedley is making the key point in both regard to the quality of the player and the possible difference in what we're aiming for this season.
