look at that ridiculous dive at 1:48! (not Modric-related)

Alright, he had been impeded and the red card was a bit harsh but justifiable anyway, but as soon as the Dinamo player saw he couldn't reach the ball he went down in a way Drogba would be proud of!

Pfft, they won 6-1 and he didn't even score. Not good enough. Ramos out.

Just kidding, he's probably the best player ever.

That's awsome and very exciting for us!

Hope we don't villify him after his first mis-placed pass at the Orient pre-season game and then progressively crush his confidence.

We'll be saying 'bye-bye' to him in two years time when we've again failed to live up to expectations.:-|

You would have thought that the number 11 - Tadic(who looks like a good player too) would have let him score on his final appearance. There are definitely 2 occasions there when he stole in ahead of Modric(could have easily let it roll to him)to score!

That keeper is absolutely shit

Modric really looks like he's a hawkeye, spends a lot of time with his head up - Lee was very good at this too, but always a talent overlooked at LB. Playing forward of a solid DM, i could see him and Keane enjoying each others company and maybe with the tips over he can get the most from Bent's ability find space behind the back line.

Can't wait, fantastic signing and he doesn't look some showboating girlyman, despite the floppy hair.

some awesome long distance quick passes from our boy modric

nice send of for him they obviously have no bad feeling towards him moving on. in the long run it should benefit the Croatia team even more i guess

This lad is getting me excited about next season

I know some are skeptical (and rightfully so when dealing with a player you may know very little about), but I think you'll be (more than) pleasantly surprised with what kind of player you're getting.

Just to put a dampener on things, the chance he missed at the back post makes it look like all he uses his left foot for is to stand on!!

Hopefully the right is such a wand it wont matter.

Look at how well the other Croatians have done so far in the Premiership - Kranjcar (Portsmouth) is a quality player, Corluka (Manchester City) is a very good defender and Eduardo(Arsenal) is a top class striker and has been badly missed since his awful injury!
Luka Modric is better than any of these guys and reminds me so much of Johan Cruyff - if he turns out to be half as good then we will have a superstar in our team!

Welcome, Dinpomp—I assume you're Croatian.

I'd guess that the only full games most on SC have seen Modric in are internationals and CL; there are YouTube compilations which feature Croatian games, so you have to suspect the quality of the opposition, although that caveat could apply to virtually every European league other than England and Spain these days. Every signing is a gamble, but I'm pretty confident that this is one where we've called it right.

After we signed Modric I went and found just about every game I could find of him. I've probably seen 10-15 full matches of Modric and let me tell you he is very very good. Honestly, I think he'll be our best player by FAR (well not BY FAR if Berbatov stays). A lot of people seem to have the wrong idea of him in that they think he'll just fit right in behind the two strikers but he has a lot of great qualities much deeper in the midfield.

He seems very very intelligent and makes the correct decision very quickly with no hesitations, he has an almost Berbatov like awareness of the players around him. He makes defense splitting passes like they're nothing. He's a decent dribbler who can work himself into space. He's also aggressive and quick defensively and while he won't put in too many tackles, he will cover his position which some people were worried about (who thought he'd just fit behind the strikers).

Honestly, watching him made me question how anyone ever considered Huddlestone a good passer of the ball. Sure the Croatian league isn't the greatest, but the speed he makes decisions at leads me to believe he's much better fitted for the premiership than someone like Huddlestone who takes hours to pick out a pass. He also excelled in the physical Bosnian league when he went on loan there at 18 (and won player of the year there). He's the player we've needed since we got rid of Carrick.

He played on the left for Dinamo but he was always drifting to the ball and could often be found on either side of the pitch dictating his team's play. I guess he plays on the left because Dinamo plays a 4-5-1 with two defensive midfielders and his team didn't really have anyone else to play on the left. He's DEFINITELY right footed, but he can use his left really well and I even saw him take a a few free-kicks with his left when his right foot would have done just fine.

Not to mention that he improves the positionwe might have needed most which was creativity and a final ball from the midfield which we had basically none of this last year. Sure we need a defensive midfielder but a lot of why we were so crap at defending is because we gave up possession in midfield so easily because no one in our midfield has any idea how to pass well really.

There's a reason why Croatians have a nearly universal opinion that the guy's a genius at football.

If Modric can adapt to the premiership, he'll be one of the top two or three midfielders in the league easily. We'll also have to fend off Barcelona if that happens.

If he doesn't live up to that, he'll still be a lot better than what we have at the moment.
