he does look great but i reckon the euro championships are a better time to see how good he is than playing against some 2 bob croatian team. even jenas would probably look like a world beater in that league!

After we signed Modric I went and found just about every game I could find of him. I've probably seen 10-15 full matches of Modric and let me tell you he is very very good. Honestly, I think he'll be our best player by FAR (well not BY FAR if Berbatov stays). A lot of people seem to have the wrong idea of him in that they think he'll just fit right in behind the two strikers but he has a lot of great qualities much deeper in the midfield.

He seems very very intelligent and makes the correct decision very quickly with no hesitations, he has an almost Berbatov like awareness of the players around him. He makes defense splitting passes like they're nothing. He's a decent dribbler who can work himself into space. He's also aggressive and quick defensively and while he won't put in too many tackles, he will cover his position which some people were worried about (who thought he'd just fit behind the strikers).

Honestly, watching him made me question how anyone ever considered Huddlestone a good passer of the ball. Sure the Croatian league isn't the greatest, but the speed he makes decisions at leads me to believe he's much better fitted for the premiership than someone like Huddlestone who takes hours to pick out a pass. He also excelled in the physical Bosnian league when he went on loan there at 18 (and won player of the year there). He's the player we've needed since we got rid of Carrick.

He played on the left for Dinamo but he was always drifting to the ball and could often be found on either side of the pitch dictating his team's play. I guess he plays on the left because Dinamo plays a 4-5-1 with two defensive midfielders and his team didn't really have anyone else to play on the left. He's DEFINITELY right footed, but he can use his left really well and I even saw him take a a few free-kicks with his left when his right foot would have done just fine.

Not to mention that he improves the positionwe might have needed most which was creativity and a final ball from the midfield which we had basically none of this last year. Sure we need a defensive midfielder but a lot of why we were so crap at defending is because we gave up possession in midfield so easily because no one in our midfield has any idea how to pass well really.

There's a reason why Croatians have a nearly universal opinion that the guy's a genius at football.

If Modric can adapt to the premiership, he'll be one of the top two or three midfielders in the league easily. We'll also have to fend off Barcelona if that happens.

If he doesn't live up to that, he'll still be a lot better than what we have at the moment.

Firstly, thanks for taking the time out to write such an interesting piece. Secondly, 75% Longevity and only 3 posts! I wish I had never found spurs chat - it's ruining my social life and degree.

We'll be saying 'bye-bye' to him in two years time when we've again failed to live up to expectations.:-|

C'mon now our dark little cloud,... we haven't lost anyone yet. Let's wallow in self pity ONLY when something bad actually happens...

proof of the pudding will be in the eating

he does look quality, granted, but there have been many others who have not adapted to premiership

we will need to give him time, something which of course we are renowned for!!

to me real problem is, that if berbs does stay, as goat suggests, then he will not have time to settle because there will be too much pressure to suceed or the silky sulky one will sulk even more
