i hope he would be interested in coming back when our new stadium is in use. he is still world class even when he is 33 or 34 and our young lads would learn a lot from him, like winks did

I can imagine him getting winks to carry him round on his back like Yoda.

Nice words, still can't help but feel a little sad when seeing a picture with him, VDV and Bale in our team though :(

Oh so you like chicken badge now eh?

Asked if Spurs are now better-placed to keep their top players, Modric said: "Of course that is the key for each team, to keep your best players. Now Tottenham have changed their politics a little bit and they want to keep their best players."

Erm, we've always wanted to keep our best players, but some have done their best to force the club into selling them.... Luka being one!!!

My first thought when I saw this thread was we'd be PL champions for years if we still had Modric, Bale and vdV. And proper CL contenders too. I know this logic could apply to anyone but it wasn't long ago and entirely possible that we could've kept them, vdV's age aside.

Except we couldn't have kept them. They wanted to leave to win trophies and it made the situation impossible.

The thought of it is actually horrible in a sense as it's so true. I know it's easy to say but maybe more of a orchestrator in the centre of midfield and special player like Bale was for us is maybe the only thing we're missing from this side. Obviously easily said but our own Sanchez/Hazard in particular, along with the talent we have already in the form of Kane, Alli, Eriksen etc. would just see this team go to an incredible level IMO.

Don't spoil it :(

Anyway, Bale always had his sights set on Madrid and Modric wanted to joint Chels... Madrid too, but my point was that it wasn't exactly a generation ago and the way we've come on so quickly means that it's not so unbelievable that we couldn't had them all in the same team, unlike the yesteryear of Berbatov and Carrick etc.

All in the past now of course but there's a tiny part of me that thinks if we really do well in the first year or two in the new stadium, those 2 will pop back for a couple of seasons and vdV will return as a youth team coach. *finds lube & toilet paper

By sad, you mean heart breaking!

When Modric's current contract runs down I would love us to try and get him back. I reckon if we tried, he'd be keen, despite the "no like chicken badge" days.

That means our bench would be Vorm, Dier, Dembele, Lamela, Son, Winks and Lukaku :sneaky:

The guy has unfinished business here. No trophies in his four seasons in England. Not even a top 3 finish. Come back and finish the job Luka.

It's great that we had players of Modric and Bale's ability. Even better that we have improved in the long-run despite losing them.
