marlbranque was all hustle and bustle, and used to give the ball away cheaply alot from my recollection. modric has adapted to life in the prem now and holding his own,

This thread is a classic!

Destroyer, Gibbs, etc., please go back to the beginning of the thread and revel in your ignorance. Lovely when your own words come back to bite you in the arse! Heh heh...

Oh, and learn something about football.

I did state in my opening post 'that Modric was the sort of luxury we didnt need at the time' - however a lot has changed since then.

Confidence and a lot of 'loving care' changed things around...however Modric was, and always will be, a star at WHL (until THFC sells him for a profit and a healthier bank balance?).
We are playing some of the best football, in years, and Modric has been the chief...then and NOW COYS!

Let's just hope we can produce similar stuff without him in the coming weeks. Time to step up and slot right in Mr Kranjcar

Only with hindsight ;-) lol

Things werent going too well at the time ......

or abit or foresight

Zokora is the ultimate headless chicken, always has been

Modric is an orchestrator of beautiful football, even when we were gash he was a bright spot

goes hand in hand with the old Hoddle saying about him being a luxury and we all know that was never the case

I dont know why Zokora gets slagged off so much on here ??

He was'nt that bad, ok he wasnt the best player weve ever bought, & certainly not one of our worst.

If he could shoot he would of been lethal.

If Huddlestone had the pace of Lennon he would be a world class midfielder, everyone would be better if you added something major to their skills.

If Lennon could cross better he would be world class, see the point?

Not that I think Zokora was only missing the scoring touch but you get the point I hope.

I hope most everyone can finally see how good Modric is and how good he was. Sure he might not have the stats of Malbranque(who I also didn't want to get rid of but where would he play anyway? On the right instead of Lennon? On the left instead of Modric? in the center instead of Jenas or Wilson? I just don't see him being anything other than a little bit more talented and experienced than Jamie O'hara so why keep him if we can get money for him?

Anyway, to blame our poor start last season on Modric is just silly, the entire team played like shit and needed a revamping, which is just what Harry did in Jan. and we have looked 100 times better with the changes.

There is now way anyone could really be singled out for our poor start last season, collectively as a team they were all poor & not helped witht the fact Gomes was having a complete nightmare & even that wasnt helped by the fact he had a different back four in front of him every week until Harry arrived.

Basically the squad had no balance, no threat up front, a hollow midfield & a piss poor defence.

I blamed the bad start on our signing policy of young and flash. Not Modric as a player.

It was the wrong player to buy at the time because we needed Palacios, a Barry or a Carrick etc etc.

I even mentioned Modric would be great in a team like Bolton or Blackburn if he was surrounded by meat heads.

I seem to remember a post about not being able to pass, or tackle then jog on as related to Modric. That is not calling him a good player surrounded by shite that is saying he isn't good enough and then in later posts saying Malbranque was at least as good as Modric if not better because he had more assists last year with Sunderland. Maybe there just wasn't a Palacios type of midfielder available at the time that our scouting team knew about and could afford? Maybe they were hoping Zokora would finally figure out what it meant to be a def. midfielder, who knows but you said Modric wasn't good enough, don't pretend like you didn't.

While I am and was in total agreement that we needed a Palacios type of central midfielder to cover the back 4 you don't say the crap you were saying and think nobody would remember it. Besides when there is the chance to get talented players, no matter what position you get them and worry about dumping lesser talent/fitting him in later. The exact same thing was said about Defoe when we first signed him as we some talented guys up front at the time with Keane and Kanoute but you just can't have too much talent at any position except maybe goalkeeper. Let the manager deal with the headache of having to fit in talented players to our team. Instead of withholding judgment after Modric got used to the Prem and its pace and power you called him weak and untalented which as we can all see he isn't.

I said IF you can't score, create etc etc you should jog on. At the time, he wasn't creating anything and he was misfiring in front of goal. Also this poor form was months...and months...and months after my initial post that he was not a good signing. Even HE said he was poor and apologized for his form. Do you even remember we were in a relegation battle? That comment was after a particuarly bad game he had, when he went months NOT creating or scoring enough.

What happened? What is that on the horizon...It is PALACIOS!!! He only started looking good when we changed the team in Jan.

And my initial claim, is that he was wrong for Spurs when he signed (over a year ago!). And a worst start in Spurs HISTORY does not help his case in being a good signing.

I also said Modric will now work in a team with Palacios (back in early Feb). And look what happened. This is all without hindsight APART from my jog on comment which was already a reality.
