It could also be that he’s seen the price tag Brighton have put on Caceido and thought that they might well price him out of a future move without a release clause.
It's also the money Brighton want in comparison to the wages being offered.
They want 100m for Caicedo but his wages after renewal are 30k per week, I think. Why would you want to be stuck at a club that wants ridiculous money for you but pay you what some Chelsea academy players get.

The thing is, Brighton is the marque stepping stone club, there is no shame in it, it’s a mutual thing where you know you will get great Gametime in a the best league in the world playing attractive football, it’s hard to beat that, the pay isn’t great but it’ll still beat what you were at. Plus you know at the end of the day they will selll, it’ll just be longer than what you want.

I get that, I'm not saying don't sign for Brighton, or the wages aren't good for a Prospect, I'm just saying if you look at how they negotiate, it'll almost be negligent not to put a release clause in the contract.
That's why I think Caicedo's advisors were stupid. It's worked out OK for him now, but they'll be many a player who'll be stuck at Brighton because the buying club don't think you're worth the money they want.

Which quotes mate - we’re obviously taking to certain people (hence the ITK). So I wouldn’t be entirely dismissive of people’s hopes.

He suggests it will be profile over high cost here.

“But I still think there's value there if you get the right players and you don't need to always spend at that top end. It's about getting the right fit for your football club. I think Madders is a great example. We haven't had to spend over the top and we've got a player who I think is going to fit perfectly into what we want to do.“

(I don’t hate this concept - and the example he cites has been the most exciting signing for me in recent times)

Tbf to Ange he’s also shown at Celtic that he very much has a good eye for talent. So let’s hope a combination of our scouts who have recently done a far better job of unearthing gems and Ange’s eye for talent and what will suit his system manages to get it right, no matter what the cost of any individual player may be. I’m optimistic given both of their recent track records.

Agree mate, we don’t have to pay £110mil on Caciedo’s etc £40mil on Maddison is a super exciting signing and in todays market good value, we just need to get our signings right and Ange has a very clear idea of what he wants and is happy to sign younger players with a bit more sell on value etc which better suits our model.

Dutch teams are never flush with cash so Kudus I doubt would be hugely expensive but depends how long left on his contract I suppose.

Let's hope some of the people he likes are with base and we might sign them.

Bergwejin looks betteer, we should go for him
I think like most players Bergwijn would have been great in this system.

A player like Salah with the dribbling, pace and shooting would be ideal. Kudus looks similar but any one in that mould

Rumours in the Mirror at the weekend of interest from "that lot down the road"

Arsenal handed Kudus boost

Brighton's 48-hour deadline for rumoured Arsenal target Mohammed Kudus to make a decision on joining them has now expired, according to Voetbal International. The Seagulls reached a £40million agreement in principle with Kudus' current club, Ajax, but it appears that the Ghanian attacker would prefer a move elsehwere.

That opens the door for Arteta and co, although they may be forced to pay a higher fee than the one which Ajax previously accepted. Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked with a move for 23-year-old Kudus, who can play in a variety of roles and offers Arteta the unpredictability which the Gunners boss has been craving.

I wouldn't take too much notice, if Arsenal had seriously wanted him he'd have gone there over Brighton anyway.

Arsenal I think are right on the cusp of FFP rules. I very much doubt this will happen.

Sign of an ambitious club.

Guess which club has hundreds of millions of FFP headroom...

Also, those jammy sods will find a way. I believe they have turned down good money for another academy product in Balogun. Sell him and this is easily achievable I'd imagine.

To be fair to Brighton, they just love seperating Todd 'howdy doody' Bowley from as much money as possible and im all for it. MacAlaister went for a reasonable fee
