Quality interview: it's remarkable how refreshing his frankness and honesty is in a world of 'Party line' interviews with footballers who are under strict orders from the clubs' PR departments to be as asinine and uncontroversial as possible.

Fair play, BAE.

Absolute gold. Nevermind the disco, Benny's like a jazz musician.

Harry must be thinking WTF? every time he's around Benny.

Our squad are a bunch of characters these days...no wonder they get along well.

It's funny, I can't help liking this guy, even when his first article came out saying he was only in football for the money. At the time it was refreshing and honest.

I don't know why he gets slated by AH each week on MOTD. I like him as a LB, I think he makes the odd mistake but on the whole he plays really well.

But he didn't say that...as he explains again here. It was twisted by a journo. What he said is he loves playing football, but he doesn't need to be paid to do it, he can do that with his mates back home. When being paid to do it he has to be a professional and make professional decisions - including moving to a club on that basis and not pretending he has supported them all his life. Most of this was in the original article for anyone who actually cared to read it rather than just accepting a made up, sensationalised headline by a journo - which is what all the media people (inlcude MOTD folk) did:roll:

I love when you see the players huddle before the game and everybody is in there with a serious face and Benoit is just kind of leaning over looking bored and slightly confused, chewing!

To quote him "He's a cool guy"!

I remember the camera lingering on him at the start of one our champion's league games, and that's exactly what he was doing.

Probably thought it was a friendly.

Probably the only player I would actually want to go for a beer with.
Classy guy on and off the pitch.

In addition to everything said here, he is shown to be something extremely rare, an intelligent footballer. He is eloquent, down to earth and realise his "job" won't last forever and he is providing for his future by investing his money wisely.

At last a footballer you can believe in.

I really like how straight-talking BAE is. I was discussing his past interviews recently and how his honesty means I have a lot of time and respect for him.

If he ever leaves, I'll be disappointed that we've lost a good player, but I'll at least respect the fact that he hadn't been chatting bollocks about how much he loved the club (unlike someone I'd prefer not to mention here...and no I'm not talking about Judas).

Stop talking about Rafa, the man is a legend, he loves the club, and it shows with his passion on the pitch. Where ever he has played the fans have loved him even madrid, where he was a reserve player.

I like BAE - not only is he "not a dickhead" (which already puts him one rung above many PL players) but he also goes beyond that and is actually alright.

Just came across the article myself and was about to post.
A genuine talent. I've held him up there for many seasons now, and getting better and better.
Great interview.

Nah not talking about Rafa. He is indeed a legend.

I was referring to a certain pointy shouty guy that I will always appreciate for what he did in his first spell at the club, but will never forget the complete bollocks he came out with about wanting to finish his career at White Hart Lane...before buggering off a few weeks later.

I get the impression that if Rafa ever felt like he needed/wanted to leave, he'd be p[rofessional but honest about it.
