that's irrelevant really. I'd imagine there'd also not be that many teams more likely to be in a position where playing their 4th choice CB became necessary either.

Southampton have made over £90m in transfers so far this summer, so they can definitely afford to stand firm with Schneiderlin and allow his value to take a small hit (it's hardly going to plummet by tens of millions now, is it?). besides, once the deadline passes, he''ll have no choice but to just suck it up and start playing again. I really do hope they do stand firm on this one for 2 reasons: 1) I don't actually want him, and don't see what he's going to bring that we don't already have, particularly if it means losing whichever of Kaboul/Sandro/Chiriches it would be that would leave to make space for him. 2) SOMEBODY has to call the bluff of these piss-taking players. if it has to be Soton, then so be it. yes, you want to leave, but IMO the whole "my head isn't in the right place" garbage is just plain disrespectful. I'm pretty sure that, even despite this obviously harrowing ordeal, he'll still somehow bravely manage to pick up however many thousands of pounds it is they're currently paying him to sit at home and sulk.
Football is different from any other industry. Players aren't employed like most of us with potentially 40 odd working years ahead of us. It is a high risk, high profile career and the clubs and the players will both try to look after themselves.

A player may have 10 years at the top of his profession if he is very lucky. They often move far away from home at a young age to follow their chosen career and more fail than succeed. Contracts are the way the business work and transfer fees are paid to buy players out of their contracts (again not like any other industry - I can't see a competitor of my employer paying a cash sum to take me, sadly). The reason a player signs a contract is to give him some degree of security but if they achieve a certain level the club will benefit and so will they as a "bigger fish" will come in and buy them. The club will get a fee to replace the player and the player gets to make the most of his short career.

It happened us with Berba, Carrick, Modric and Bale. I was disappointed when each of these players left and wished they loved the club like I do and had stayed but it's the way of the business. Now that time has passed I follow each of these players and want them to perform well wherever they play.

Schneiderlin has given Southampton 6 years and progressed to a level where he can better himself at a bigger club. He has watched his colleagues/friends leave obviously being allowed to believe he would be next and then when things look like happening his employer moves the goalposts, denying him an opportunity that may not come up again. He's a young man that feels his employers are unfairly taking away him dream and behaving accordingly. Football like any profession has its mercenaries but with Morgan's history there is no reason to assume he is one of them.

We should all ask ourselves what we would honestly do. Better job, more money, working with our old boss that brought out the best in us, chance of international recognition. I'm not sure I could knuckle down and get on with it if there was still a chance of a move.

I think the crucial question is whether a club is showing ambition themselves or not... if yes, then a player should be more prepared to stick around, if not then why should he?

But after Koeman said that, he is asked does he think Schneiderlin will end up staying and to that question he says I don't know.
And even that's a lie because he knows he ain't staying. :D

Koeman looked very uncomfortable having to get in front of cameras and defend a position which he knows is untrue. I'm sure he's biting it behind the scenes though as s'ton is a doorway into the pem for him - if it goes well then he can rebuild the team properly, if it doesn't he's a manager with prem experience and he'll probably get another job in the best league in the world and continue to build his cv.

what's the chances of schneiderlin still being "on strike" when the window closes and he's still a southampton player? very low i'd say, he's not going to want to sit around doing nothing for the next five months. southampton are in a stronger position on this than some of you like to make out.
A good point and let's compare with Modric. Levy was confident we would not be relegated and that Modric's value would hold for a season.
Can Krueger believe the same for Soton and MS?

Regarding the possibility of Chiriches going to Southampton in the MS transfer

Southampton are closing in on the signing of Steaua Bucharest defender Florin Gardos, according to reports in his native Romania.

Really hope we keep Chiriches, will only get better.

I kinda disagree about whether we should keep him vs the only get better which I do agree with. I don't think he will get the chance at Spurs. We need 2 experienced CH's and Vlad ain't it. He seems an ambitious sort of guy (I couldn't blame him) and his agent thinks he is ready now. Maybe we should shift him on quickly if this is the case.

I want a settled CH pairing for 2 or 3 years and not 2 or 3 games.

If MM Comes in like expected logic would be that one of Kaboul,Vlad or Daws will go, obviously we and the club would prefer Daws but it's more a question of which one will be willing to go. Vlad is at an age where he needs to be playing regularly so would be ready to go, Daws may be happy to play in cups and standby rather than regular for Hull and Kaboul will be looking to prove his fitness and with his contract running down if he does have a good season he will be in for a good pay day at the end if the season so I wouldn't go if I was in his position and there may not be too many top quality interest until he has proved his fitness.

If we do end up paying 17-20 mill for MS we also may need to look at balancing the books and selling the defender with the most value who is Vlad of the three. So getting or not getting MS could well influence who we sell.

Saints fans in saintsweb are really irrational. They think that the club should/would not sell morgan to us in order to demonstrate that the club will not be bullied by players anymore. They even think that Southampton should keep Morgan and put him in the reserve team and rot (No matter how expensive it may cost). Some of them may think that Morgan has ruined his French career.

Well, Katharina Liebherr must appreciate their views. ;)

There's 60 odd games this season. Not a chance Jan will start probably more than 40 and in terms of getting best from him the right thing. So that's 20 starts right there, and that's not including injuries or suspensions.

To be honest we were saying the same thing about Modric

I am just wondering why none of them take their owner's intention into consideration. The club is owned by Katharina Liebherr, not their chairman nor the fans. The owner has no integrity that the fans want, sad to say.

Captain of your country and ambitious. 20 games in the Europa after a period of time playing maybe second fiddle? No, I reckon the guy wants to play the 40 games and not the 20 tbh.

I don't see that as irrational. Considering the money they've brought in this window they don't need to sell and I'd think the same if I was a Saints fan.

The Bale thread probably made similar reading last season. The Modric thread definitely did the season before.

When talking about their team supporters aren't rational. Particularly after the summer they're having.

It's not 20, that's the minimum it's more likely 30. Plus Europa is as important as league now, so there'll be mix of what players start what games.
