It's also about adding some characters to the squad off the pitch too. Someone like Kono will have to change his whole life around. Will his family settle in London? Poch obviously knows Morgan and Jay, and thinks they can settle in and add stability as people too.
Exactly. 15 goals in 33 appearances last season and no doubt we'll get moaners that believe Konoplyanka would have been a better option. Kono looks promising but I don't really get this argument.

This is going to come off as really cynical but what if we're just briefing these stories to make it look like we tried to sign these players for Poch, only for it to all tragically collapse late in the window? I just don't see how this happens unless we start selling pretty soon too.

Maybe I need a tinfoil hat but I've always had a nagging thought in the back of my mind that we'd be capable of doing shit like that. It displays ambition without actually spending anything.

Sorry, but I'd rather risk on someone recovering from an ACL these days, than signing someone for big money from the Eastern Block. Russians and Ukranians have been a massively mixed bag adapting to big league European football.

So you would rather refute recent medical research and hold a stereotyped stance against an individual's ability because of his nationality? Very strange logical process IMO.

I might agree if the rumours were coming from someone close to our end, but all of it is coming from the Soton end, meaning we're making actual inquiries.

It does seem a little odd that we'd buy both Rodriguez and Schneiderlin without selling at least two players.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree :) Besides, I'd say there's a good chance that Rodriguez could make a good recovery, and let's hope he can even emulate Ramsey and find another level post-injury :)

Ramsey suffered a very different, and much more minor injury. Not intended to be offensive, but they're entirely unable to be compared. But why do you feel there's a good chance Rodriguez will make a good recovery? Have you read something I've yet to see?

Its a bit early to be spinning that propeller,

We're not even into August

Also I don't even think we spent any money last season so the pot should be pretty flush.

It all depends on the price. If we can get him for cheap due to the injury and his contract running down, it makes sense given his best years are arguably still in front of him so long as he recovers from the injury and he also is home grown.

Buying a player who is out with an ACL injury is a huge risk... We've seen it first hand with Sandro that there's no guarantees that they'll return the same player. Levy isn't known for taking risks

You can guarantee that if this happened quickly then one or two of our players would be off in the next few days

I think he'll be assessed by the medical team properly before he joins. If he signs then we can be pretty sure he'll be alright.

I've been to Russia and Ukraine mate. I'm telling you, it is a different world - as seen on the news at the moment too. The way they think about football is different too. Very few stars in Europe since the wall came down, Shevchenko being the best example, but he was treated like a son by Berlusconi.

And I'm sure the transfer fee will be structured accordingly to take the injury into account.

Definitely don't think we should be bidding big money for Rodriguez - YET.
He's still 3 months away from playing, and there's no assurance he will play to the same level he did before.
Would rather we had a written agreement that we get first option on him in January window.

I guess it will depend on the price Soton want for him. I imagine the fee will have to be discounted to account for the added risk. IF we sign him it means the price was right and the doctors like what they see. Simon Peach is a good Soton source, but it's still all pretty vague at this point. If it does happen, Rodriguez is our January shot-in-the-arm signing all wrapped up!

No, but I'm not comparing the physical aspects of the injuries, but rather the nature of them. Being out for a long time, and then coming back and just pushing on. From all the interviews with Rodriguez, he sounds positive regarding his injury and I like his attitude. Strikes me as someone with good determination who really doesn't want this injury to get him down. Of course, sometimes that can't be helped, and recurring injuries might be unavoidable, but players have recovered from serious injuries before
