... by the Guardian commenter ClamBuster's calculations anyway. All the below is pasted from there.

i was a bit bored yesterday, so what i decided to do is compile an 'all competitions' mini top 5 league to see what is what

all uefa recognised professional games this season have been included (the shield, supercup, europa/CL qualiifiers, europa/CL, league cup, and the prem)

even one off games and knock out games have been converted into points

and here we are:

......................P.......W......D.......L.......Pts
1. spuds........27.......19......3.......5........60
2. city...........25........18......2......5........56
3. arsenal......26........18.....2.......6........56
4. chelsea.....26........16......3......7........51
5. utd............26........15......6......5........51

this isn't meant to troll or bait, i just thought it would be interesting to see across the board how well (or poor) certain teams and managers are doing

ps. i haven't included liverpool or everton because their point tally's with no european competition or extended cup run where obviously going to be lower

enjoy...

City actually has more points per game than us. Also this is hardly a fair comparison when for example Arsenal's been playing BVB and Napoli and we've been beating up on Dynamo Tblisi and Anzhi Middleoffuckingnowhereackala.

Let's not forget that the team that finished 2nd in our Europa league group hasn't won a single game out of 19 in the Russian Premier League and is almost certain to get relegated.

Those other teams were playing proper matches in Europe. The only relevant statistic is the Premier League points (and to an extent goal difference which is usually indicative of quality and final league position).

Tromsö - Norways 2nd division.
Anji - 0 wins, 19 games.
Sheriff - Who the fuck are they?

That table shows nothing, really.

I like this.

Because it highlights the reason why statistics don't actually give the answer you are looking for.

Good thing about stats, is that it can be portrayed in a positive light (as above), or a negative light - depending on what slant you want to adopt.

Where's the table that shows me actually starting to begrudge watching Spurs play the same banal shite every week regardless of the result?

Taking away the other team it still shows AVB did a pretty good job.

You can only play the teams you face. If we were in the champions league he would have stepped up the intensity.

It's all history anyway.

It's like the assassination scene from Julius Caeser, everyone plunging in to have one last stab as AVB, with one last effort, raises an arm and points, then with his last breath, mutters "Et tu, SC?" before dropping limply to the ground.

Like Harry, the story of AVB will always be the subject of argument/debate/yourmums :p

Spanked 5-0, 6-0, 3-0 and can't score in a brothel yet most successful team in England! lol

Such a shame he couldn't play Georgian or Moldovian sides or relegated Norwegian sides or sides that've only won against that relegated Norwegian side in last 27 games week in week out

I think this actually exposes the board as being more than trigger happy, sure things weren't right at spurs, the balance wasn't right, we lacked creativity, some cracks had begun to show, but statistics do show us that AVB had us working in the right direction, I certainly had more faith in him than someone like sherwood, it's happened and can't be changed so is pointless but I just hope that levy brings in a top top name and starts to change his slightly erratic approach
