Dragging this back to MOTD

Think it’s really clever what the production team have done. They could have gone with the World Service commentary but by leaving it out just shows how much value and context is added by decent commentary / analysis.

Now just need Newcastle & Arsenal to trip up tomorrow and it’s been a decent round of results for us

We are a blunt people. It helps when people like @Thenewcat is trying to split hairs so fine it's close to causing a fracture in space time. :ROFLMAO:

"Oohh he just meant it was reminiscent of nazis not that they were actual nazis and certainly not about other things that nazis did..."

I mean... For goodness sake. Have some bloody self respect:ROFLMAO:
More culture in a bloody yoghurt! 🤣

They didn't have the rights to use the world feed commentary so they were really out of options. No presenter, no pundits in the studio, no commentators and nobody to do the interviews (and in fact nobody to interview because all the players and clubs had agreed to boycott the interviews should the BBC have tried to do them).

No his contract doesn’t say that. And if it did, personal views of people who aren’t employed by the bbc shouldn’t be confused with bbc editorial stance if you have half a brain cell. And lastly, various right wing commentators have been oddly fine to give their views
I didn’t say it did.

20 minutes of highlights is just what I like tbf short and sweet without the faf, would prefer commentary though.

I haven't watched it yet but will probably watch the Spurs bit tomorrow on the iPlayer.
It will be weird though because even though I think Lineker is a bit of a dick, I do enjoy him together with Shearer and Wrighty.
I also enjoy commentary, even though plenty here seem to prefer it without.

Yeah I know I said I was out but lecturing me on self respect is a bit much. If someone said gay rights were a western abomination and i said ‘bloody hell you sound like Vladimir Putin’ i wouldn’t actually be saying they were Vladimir Putin, or that they agreed with everything else Vladimir Putin says or does. I’m not splitting hairs. You are inferring something that wasn’t said and getting more and more defensive/confrontational when it’s pointed out.

It’s a shame that it happened on the one game where we came out and moved the ball with some positive intent for a change.

Much much better style of play and dictating the game on our terms. You don’t get to see much of it on the MOTD highlights but hoping there will be a decent highlights package on the spurs app for people to watch.

Is it too much to add a Villa beating West Ham twist to the day ?

I'm the one getting "defensive/confrontational"? :ROFLMAO: Might want to check whose dishing out the neg reps left right and centre. It certainly ain't me. :D

Everyone who isn't deliberately trying to obfuscate knows EXACTLY what Lineker meant by "reminiscent of 1930's Germany". I'm just pointing that out and laughing at the very few - albeit passionate and quick on the neg rep button - people who are pretending otherwise. (y)

Do you really think cancelling MOTD would enable free TV licences for the elderly or are you joking? Because that's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen spouted on here.

Clearly you missed my point. I’ll spell it out for you.

the BBC pays out a fuck ton of money on an outdated format and employs ex pros that spout bollocks most weeks.

the format and cost is thus outdated and the money spent could be used else where by some archaic, bloated corporation which makes you pay for a licence fee wether you like it or not, including the elderly who some of struggle financially.

what’s your fucking problem with helping people out? As that was part of my point. Trimming fat and helping people.

do you understand now?

But a lot of people also watch and enjoy the show.
Just because you don't doesn't mean that it's shit and should be taken off air.
It's got nothing to do with charging old folk for the licence fee, that's a different discussion and cancelling MOTD won't make the slightest difference to that.

If this were true then why did he not say "language reminiscent of 2010's Britain" or "New Labour Britain" or "Thatchers Britain" or "1960's Britain" with rivers of blood speeches.

Or literally hundreds of other liberal democratic nations in dozens of post war eras where similar language has been employed by politicians of every side of the chamber on the subject of illegal immigration- driven by the fact it's a hot button issue with voters?

We all know why. He was talking about NAZIS because that's where Godwins fucking law demands social media goes.

Bizarre that people are deploying the "he didn't mean what he clearly meant" argument. Most people agree with him BECAUSE they know exactly what he meant :ROFLMAO:

When have I ever said he wasn't talking about Nazis? When has anyone said that actually? I'm sure linekar himself would clarify that he was indeed talking about Nazis. I'm really struggling to see what your point is. This isn't some weird conspiracy.

As I genuinely don't know what point youre trying to make, all I can do is try to reiterate what I said originally. He said some of the language used was similar to the language used in 1930s Germany (yes by the Nazis, nobody is trying to "hide" that fact or whatever kind of strange point youre trying to make). My point is that this is not the same as saying the government are Nazis.

To use a shit footballing analogy, watching spurs and saying "Its like watching a fucking pub team this. What a load of shite" isn't the same thing as saying "The entire spurs team are made up of middle aged fat blokes who are still half cut from the night before, and there's a pile of feces in the middle of the field." If you genuinely don't see the difference, then I don't know what to tell you.

As for the bizarre "why didn't he use any other example from history" point you seem to be making. The answer is because he didn't. Are you seriously suggesting that every time someone compare something to something else, they have to list every single available comparison as well? Or maybe, just maybe, he used the example that would resonate with the most people.

I would like the Beeb to issue two versions of MOTD , one with commentators/ pundits etc drawing nonsense lines of triangles etc and the other like tonight's version just crowd noise and replays of goals, VAR , I liked the 20 minute version .
