Jose Mourinho says Troy Parrott has to ‘work a lot’ to improve and feels the Tottenham teenager’s ineffective outing against Norwich shows he was right to leave him out of the side for so long.

Not hijack another desperately needed troy parrott thread but.....

I thought Oliver Skipp was really good last night.

Impressed with his fitness considering he doesnt play ..... for any age group really.

Got given a chance and took it I thought.

After we hit the magic 43/44 points and are safe from relegation, give him a games and then we all (from a fans perspective) can judge him.
Go on Jose, I dare you, what've you got to lose, can't get any worse

That's a fair position, once we are secure then give him a run-out, but I see one issue with this.

If the team senses we have given up on the season, the whole team may play without effort, and we might not see what he (Parrot) is really about.

We need a game a live wire game, where we are cruising with 30 mins to go, then stick him in, when everything is going for the team.

That's the way to blood him, last night wasn't quite right.

half the fan base literally thought he was the messiah.

Anyone who isnt being picked instantly becomes an invaluable world beater, anyone who is being picked is a waste of space.

The fact that Jose is so quick to praise Skipp and Tanganga but is markedly not so for Parrott suggests he may think he has an ego problem

Cruising with 30 minutes to go? Parrott will never get a game.

Shouldn’t use a young player to point score against fans over who’s boss.
Imagine the meltdown if Mourinho hadn't given him the runout. The lad will come good but whilst managers get it wrong, it's a salutary lesson in the real game not being like championship manager. We're all pundits but you have to trust the process of bringing through players sometimes.

Possibly buy Skipp and Tanganga didn't come with the hype. It's not just the fans - he's getting bigged up by pundits too without having proven anything yet.

Personally I was waiting for him to get the green light when ready. If Mourinho only did it to prove a point it’s completely irresponsible.

Parrott Parrott Parrott
Maybe we now can stop hearing about how essential he is all the time until he's matured a bit more.

My perspective on that was that I wanted to see somebody in the 9 shirt who actually knew how to play there. Didn't have any great expectations of Troy Parrott doing some sort of 'Roy of The Rovers' saves our season type deal, but thought it was worth a go putting somebody in there who knew what the job entailed. Fernando Llorente would have done for me.

Agreed - it would be very disappointing.

Here's the quote:

The penalty is nothing. He is a penalty taker in the under-23s, he scores every one in the unders. ‘He was so confident, he wanted to take one, he wanted to take the responsibility, it’s an experience in his career. ‘The problem is not his experience. The problem is the 30 minutes. ‘Now people can see that he has to work a lot so don’t think that Parrott is the second Harry Kane because he’s just a young kid that needs to work. ‘Let’s forget the penalty because we all miss the penalties, it was not Troy

Majorly off topic and 100% hindsight, but who the fuck comes up with the idea of letting Llorente go unless he agrees to a 5% wage decrease so we could save a few thousands. I mean having Llorente in the squad, then letting him go, then hiring Mourinho who only would have needed to have Llorente in the squad now. I'm going to use a word now that's controversial, but that's Spursy.
