HARRY'S ORDERED TO CHOP

Harry Redknapp has been told to clear the dead wood out of Tottenham before he can consider a summer spending spree.
The restrictions placed on manager Redknapp by the club's board are leading to tension as he looks to recruit about £30million worth of talent to compete for a top six finish next season.
Redknapp fears he could miss out on key targets unless Spurs provide him with funds to compete for players before off-loading some of his players.
But chairman Daniel Levy claims the club have heavily overspent in the transfer market as they battled to beat the drop last season and insists any new signings must be financed by sales.
Redknapp is paying the price for his predecessor Juande Ramos's disastrous recruitment campaign.

The mess Redknapp inherited in October prompted him to spend almost £50m to safeguard the club's top-flight future.
Now he has targeted Kenwyne Jones, Glen Johnson, Peter Crouch, Ashley Young and Stewart Downing.
Redknapp would consider selling Darren Bent, David Bentley, Tom Huddlestone, Heurelho Gomes, Gareth Bale, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Jermaine Jenas, Giovani Dos Santos and Vedran Corluka.
Manchester City's decision to allow Joe Hart out on loan could help Spurs recruit a new keeper for little outlay

Hi ch

one possible answer to your question is 'none', because, guess what, this story may be somewhat inaccurate or at least misleading, and i'm being generous in my estimation :)

we've already missed out on barry. couldn't match a £12m valuation for a starting england midfielder.

Oh please re the £12mil for Barry.
We wouldn't match £12 mil for somebody of his ability with one year on his contract.Had we matched it City would have outbid us.
City could pay £12 mil upfront which we couldn't and they are also offering wages which take it to about £37 million which we couldn't match nor would anybody in their right mind would want to match.
As for the initial article I think we may put out spin in an attempt to be shrewd though it seems that some people would be happier if we attempted to outbid City.
There is a certain amount of truth that when we do sign players some of our current crop will not be needed so get them off the wage bill.

Hi chkt - you must know that 'selling to buy' had nothing to do with the Barry saga

our wage structure would allow us to offer him £65,000 pw tops - (and I doubt even that)

he's apparently doubled that with City - seriously who's he gonna choose and what has that to do with selling to buy. Zero, zilch nada, would be my reply.

M opinion is that if a player is availble on the right terms then we will buy him, regardless of whether we have sold previously or not.

hey and that's my catchphrase :)

But we didn't match the bid prior to anything being discussed with wages.

The story is somewhat twisting the truth. There is money available for transfers, but at the same time Levy does expect the squad to be trimmed.

Fair comment Kendall, but let's be honest we don't know exactly what happened.

My guess is the minute City were serious, Harry knew Barry wasn't gonna happen.

Anyway, for me, our failure to get Barry was nothing to do with 'selling before buying'.

You may choose validly to differ.

I'll repeat, if the terms are right my belief is we'll buy even if we haven't sold.
