I haven't started a thread in ages, but I thought I would do after seeing some tell tale familiar signs.

Unfortunatly its not the players as so much from the fans. I can remember the last few months of the Martin Jol reguime and similar knee jerk reactions being labelled against him. Our worries get the better of us and cloud our judgement once we have tasted success. For example,

Santini- First he was heralded as before him we were shite with an old team. His setup was ultra defensive, but an atouba goal against newcastle and draw with Chelsea (the park the bus affair) heaped praise on him. I think everyone was relieved when Jol became the manager though and changed the team to an attack minded outfit again (4-5 Arse debut).

Jol then nearly got 4th and fell at the last hurdle. We expected nothing and were delighted with the position, albiet the fact that we just about scrapped through many of the games.

The next season after tasting success the fans on here were beginning to call him tactically naive. Berbatov hit us to 5th on the final day (I think) but there were many people here saying that he had taken us far enough.

Then we had the Ramos fiasco (though not straight away) and the 'brilliant' tactition that we had heralded made way for Wheeler Dealer Harry. The reaction on here was mostly, negative. Then we do well and Harry is given credit for motivating the team. The next season we have our best in the premiership and Harry has become a good tactical manager (he makes the right substitutions).

But now we've tasted success. And instantly we revert back to our negative, unbelieving stance that we're not good enough and the wrong man is at the helm.

We need to trust the man, trust the team, and do our best as fans to propel us forward. We suffer from a self loathing (and dare I say) small club mentality.

nb...controversial and I wouldn't wholeheartadly agree with that last comment, but I think its valid.

It does seem to be a bit of a groundhogg day situation.
I do wonder where all the criticisms would end up if you followed them to their conclusions.
Would it mean sacking the management team and wholesale player change?

But surely an idiot can see that tactics have nothing to do with how we have started the season?

a)injuries

b)lack of getting a decent striker in

Neither of these are arry's fault!

Are you seriously telling me that injuries and lack of striker is the reason why the team as a whole play like they belong in the championship?

Yes.

Because with those injured players in the team we've seen the team play like the best team in the league.

It's a good thread and kudos to the chap who kicked it off, unfortunately we are all really negged out at the moment so we're all most likely to call each other ****s in the thread entitled 'Redknapp is shit' or whatever it is called.

Hopefully we'll win a couple of matches soon.

Obvious - but did not stop the masses from baying for Ramos' blood, did it?
And unlike Ramos, Harry does not have a DoF influencing the transfer activity. And he doesn't have 5 of the first team players just settling in the new team / EPL, just the VDV for him - and what a nice problem to have.

I think this is an interesting thead, we need Harry to stay for the next few years so that the team can stay together and develop. There will be people who call for his head if we don't get fourth this year but we need to learn from the past, it's the only way we can move forward.

I disagree. I'm an idiot and I can't see anything of the sort.

I wonder what people will say if Harry leaves us high and dry should England come calling.

I think we've played dire stuff this season-every bit as painful as that long ball crap we were serving up last January and/or February.

So we have the likes of Vdv modders huddlestone Lennon bale all fit they should be capable of beating the teams we have drawn or lost to recently

You're overlooking one thing - the league is harder for us now.

Take Wigan, after their successive thumpings they needed a result. But if they were playing Chelsea or Man U (maybe even arsenal or Man C) in that game they probably would have written it off and aimmed for the next match.

Since it was us they knew they'd have to raise their game to compete but at the same time they can be reasonably confident they can get something - we're talented but not a machine like other clubs. It's not a good situation,

we were experienced it last year and we'll experience it this year. Being able to win these 'easy' games regularly is something that takes time. It's hard to really have a killer mentality when you've only just been handed the gun.

I am going to be an advocate here SB, but you dont see injuries to the Manu's Arsenals and Chelsea of this world affecting their flow do you. three, four or even five key personel injured, and their replacements slot right in and its work as usual without compromising the way they play.

Really? Man U haven't looked half as good as they did when Rooney was performing. Even against Liverpool they nearly messed up a game they should have been out of sight in.

Fabregas out for 3 weeks, how did Arsenal get on at the weekend?

Chelsea did how well without Lampard at the weekend?

I'm not saying that we would definitely have won the games with all out players, but I am saying that the disruption caused by these injuries has definitely affected our fluidity due to not being able to field the same team twice in a row.
