It's so sad. Hope all your kinsfolks come through this stronger than before. Nothing much I can do here in Canada. I have a little suggestion: when Spurs next play Arsenal, both sets of supporters chant your stepfather and stepbrother's names. If at all possible both teams march into the stadium together holding the hands of the mascots.

I used it simply to attract some attention please don’t start anything on this post
It worked as I saw the badge and then clicked on the thread thinking 'why tf does someone have an Arsenal badge as their image'?

My condolences to you and your family. Football matters not at these times.

Hello, I am an Arsenal fan and wouldn’t normally come to a Spurs community forum but I need us to put rivalries aside for the sake of my step-father.

David Gooch is the biggest, kindest Tottenham fan, regularly attending home games, 2 weeks ago today he was getting ready to attend the first game of the season at Tottenham Hotspur stadium vs City.

Before the game he received the most horrific call from his son’s girlfriend that his son Sean Gooch had suffered multiple heart attacks when out for a run. Sean being a 26 year old healthy runner, this was a massive shock. Without hesitation, David drove up north to Manchester to be by his son’s side. He was put into an induced coma as his brain had been deprived of oxygen for over 90 minutes. Things took a turn and he had to have his leg amputated the next morning because of a blood clot. This was done to give him a chance of survival. Unable to breath by himself, he was using up to full capacity of life support, expecting the worst David was by his sons side, playing his favourite music in hope of a miracle. This miracle did not come as Sean passed away in the early hours of Wednesday 18th August.

David is heartbroken at the loss of his only son and I too at the loss of my step-brother. I fear my step father may never be the same again and his passion for his beloved Spurs may never be what it was. After losing his father and mother in recent years I’ve noticed he’s never quite returned to his old bantering ways at my expense!

Please help me to honour Sean in some way, show David that you are all there and you hear him and feel his pain. Where do I go for Tottenham to hear this and do some kind of gesture for David and his son (my step-

I would do anything to bring Sean back and make my step-father have some happiness again, even if it meant Spurs winning the league and Champions league.

Thank you, Spurs fans.

At the end of the day football is only a game.

Very best wishes to you and the whole of your family at this hard time.

We all have our loyalties, alliances, call it even tribal adoration, but it scenarios like this that give me faith in humanity. Shows that it is only a minority of fans who take things past the point of acceptability.

I hate Arsenal as a team, but their fans are as we are, just a group of people with their own loyalties sharing their love.

@Goonerseth I applaud your choice to come here on behalf of your step-father. Shows that football is far more than, what can only be described in situations such as these, petty rivalries.

I know that most people on here, along with me, send all our heartfelt respect to you and your family, and I am sure if there is anyway to fulfil your wishes this is the place that could make it happen.

Give your Stepdad the support from all of us here, and all fans of football, not only us Tottenham fans, wish him all the best and hope that the remembrance of his son becomes a thing of beauty and not just of sorrow.

Sorry for your loss, Aaron. I wish you all the best.

The 'hatred' of our respective clubs is just that - a word in inverted commas. It's not real hatred, it's rivalry and, for me, it would never go beyond that: banter and fun. Some who know me on this site have seen me call Arsenal fans all sorts of names, but in the true analysis, it's just joking. The reality is that you're a human being like me and I can't imagine the pain you're going through, only extend my sympathies for it. I won't pretend you're not going to be in pain, but I can hope, and genuinely do hope, that you get through it and remember the happiness that Sean brought you, David and everyone whose life he touched.

It may be inappropriate, but I'm just going to say this to the two numpties who felt it appropriate to 'D'oh' the very obviously heartfelt and grieving opening post. Take a long, hard look at yourselves in the fucking mirror, losers!

@bunny and @NBTS you should be ashamed of yourselves for giving this post the ratings you have. Regardless of which side of the football divide you fall on its still only a game. Something's are just far more important.

Thank you, yes we are in quite a lot of pain. I wasn’t particularly close with Sean which is a big regret of mine. But this has hit me hard and I know David and my mother are also in deep deep pain! I wasn’t sure what the doh reactions were about but disappointing there are some that feel the need to be like that. I appreciate your kind words ??

Thank you for saying this, I was about to post the same thing. Both accounts seem to be lurkers with only a handful of posts but they are obviously complete arseholes.

For @Goonerseth my thoughts are with you, I hope you can take some solace from the messages of support on here. As others have said, football is just a game, life is much more important.
