Born in London, father Welsh born ? (adopted during the war). Mother English born in Australia, grew up in Sri Lanka.

I moved to US as a kid, moved to France about 15 years ago.

In spite of myself having only British nationality, although I hardly ever lived there, my first two kids have only French nationality, due to a strange law promulgated under Thatcher that children born out of wedlock, and out of the country, to a British father are NOT entitled to British nationality.

Third child, en route will have British, French and Italian nationality, since now I am married to her (Italian) mother. In contrast to the stingy way they give out British nationality, Italian is pretty easy to come by - can get it only a few years after marrying someone Italian, so I'm getting that just for the hell of it.

Croatian. Only tomorrow night we'll be on the opposite sides :)

Given that my country of birth (Austria) long ago lost its footballing mojo, I follow the dutch and croatian teams.

Fantastic team in mid 90s: Suker (despite his unfortunate stint at the arse), Boban, Boksic, Prosinecki, Jarni and Asanovic - all world class players. One of the best goals ever is Suker's against Denmark. His first touch receiving the ball is sublime:

Being Jewish is actually a nationality (ethnicity), whilst Judaism is the religion - That's why Jews aren't necessarily religious.

Correct me if ive misunderstood your point, so is jewish just another term for israeli? or is a jewish american jewish too despite not having an israelin passport or right to a passport?

He is saying it's an ethnicity(although not like black/caucasian), in the way one could be African American (hence Jewish American).

Still not a Nationailty as such, as not directly link to a specific country/nation. It's more a form of identifty.

Notions of how one identifies themself can be complex and personal, as touched on earlier with people saying they are world citezens rather then identifying with a single nation.

But this thread is more than simply where do you live, it's asking who/what you are...so although the title says nationality specifically I think it is equally valid for someone to state they are Jewish as much as someone could say Irish even though that does not link them to a conutry (because it is how they identify themselves)

Altough for the sake of this thread an answer such as 'Jewish, English born father mother of Polish decent' for example would probably be more appropiate.

Being Jewish does not necessarily brand you as Israeli. However, any Jew can get an instant citizenship (as long as, at least, the mother is Jewish), but as you probably know, not all Jews opt to obtain the citizenship.

The question asked though isn't "How do you identify yourself?" or "What defines you?", the question asked if "What NATIONALITY are you?".

Making the answer of Jewish completely wrong and irrelevant to the question as it is a RELIGION, not a COUNTRY or even a RACE.

I beg to differ due to the aforementioned.

Where I did refer to what you are addressing, as the extract you decided to quote was not specifically confined to this thread.

@DOX,

I'm not having a go about your religious beliefs, or lack of them, I'm simply pointing out the simple fact that the question which was asked was, "Which nationality are you?".

It is a very simple and straight-forward question, which most have answered.

The fact that I am a British citizen and hold British nationality says absolutely nothing about me other than the country I was either born in, eligible for citizenship to, or naturalized to. That is what nationality is.

It is not about what you do or do not believe, it is not about what you would or would not like to be, it's not about how you feel. It's simply a statement of fact based on very rigid criteria.

There is no such nationality as jewish anymore than there are nationalities such as catholic, shia or satanist.

If you're trying to make some religious point, (as I suspect, though I'm willing to be wrong), then do it in a thread about religion, not one about nationality because nationality has absolutely fuck all to do with religion.
