Still can't see qatar taking over a team with percieved jewish links. Yes i am sure on a buisiness level it would make sense but to a large section of the muslim population (world) it might not. Also from a financial position i'm not sure it would make sense either as other teams would be cheaper yet have far more potential for growth.

I'll wait and see before getting too excited (good or bad).

I agree about the sticking point being a jewish club.

But i think we are the best in the world for growth. Who better?

it could only be Arsenal or Chelsea. Neither are for sale and Chelsea have hit a dead end until they build a new stadium.

Including the stadium we will be worth probably over £1bn. Thats why i don't see much growth. Yes if we won titles our value would go up, but how much investment would that take and how valuable would we become? Maybe double the total investment if we bacame a mega club? There are other clubs that could be potentially as big with less investment but more time.

Its more to do with becoming self sustaining. This is the biggest football market in the world. Highest ticket price, biggest hospitality market, and if successful, biggest sponsorship market.

You could buy a team like PSG but you would forever be funding it. A team that needs funding isn't worth great deal if you don't keep funding it.

You only have to look at Arsenals revenue to see how lucrative London is. They have never won the CL. Haven't won a league title for 12 years. But are about 5th richest club in the world.

Finally doubling a 1bn investment is much better than losing money. Think how much Chelsea, Man City and PSG have lost already.

How much were chelsea bought for and how much are they worth now? They are sustainable now even without cl. City and psg we'll have to wait and see.
If we are bought simply for prestige then i could possibly see it. If for investment i'm not sure.

without romans money their natural place in the league is about 6th. He is still subsidising them a little bit. also you can't confuse what they were worth in 2005 to what they are worth now. Its a different landscape. They were days from being declared bankrupt when Roman bought them.

Also, you are buying tangible assets not just football players. Thats where the majority of the price comes in. Stadium, training ground etc... London is expensive, because its richest city in Europe.

You would have to be pretty savvy to make money out of a football club. The majority of people lose money. But the longer you own it, the more the capital appreciates.

iirc, didn't they actually sell the ground but the firm of property developers went down the pan and the club managed to reclaim their ownership at some point?

This is also where the pair of Daves and Mrs Mungo have dicked up with West Ham - they've now played their hand and sold the stadium, if my memory serves they haven't owned their own training ground in many years, so all that is left is the brand itself. If that doesn't flourish soon then they are going to be left with trying to sell a club in name only.

I was talking about the average team. There will be differences club by club. Chelsea may not own the ground, but they have exclusive use of it. As for West Ham, theyre mad to move to that stadium.

I think Chelsea own the ground, or abramovitch does, but not the playing surface, something daft like that anyway.

Fuck Qatar and any team they fund.

There's Barcelona for one. Basically there's two main Qatari wings who operate huge portfolios. The Qatari royal family and the Qatari presidential family, and they complete on a global level to show off their dicks to each other and the world. Both of them own vast chunks of Mayfair, one of them owns the Uk stock exchange and the other owns the Shard and most of Barclays Bank. Its that kind of level we are talking about. The country dosnt allow foreigners without being assigned a local to represent them, and for example if you crash your car that person will do the time/fines/face sanctions. The country has huge reserves of natural gas and some oil, all discovered recently and there's not that much to last more than 30 years so they are spending their wealth wisely.

I'm not sure which side runs the airline. But the upcoming World Cup death toll estimate is up over 4000, shocking working conditions and slavery of imported Indian builders.

Without assurances one could definitely say fuck Qatar, whichever side is bidding for our club. You'd have to ignore an awful lot and only focus on the vast fortune they are spunking to consider this a safe deal.

I personally think that its the way the game is going and we would be fools to let pride stop a takeover of that proportion. I am proud that we have developed the club in the right way and continue to challenge our boundaries under the current format. However if it isnt us, then it will be a West Ham or an Atletico Madrid and we would be further behind.

The game has turned ugly but i dont want to stop watching. If that means competing for titles under Qatar then so be it

I understand some of the concern but to be honest, we've got Russian and Chinese ownership in this country and nobody seems bothered, they are hardly bastions of human rights excellence are they.
I'm old fashioned so I would much prefer no sponsorship at all but my world has gone so if we need to take the grubby money I'll be happy if we can make them pay through the nose.

Unfortunately yeah. I think you are right. If we were the first, or even the second it would be intolerable. But it seems the only way to compete nowadays

Its not pride stopping me supporting Qatar, its right and wrong in the context of thousands of dead bodies piling up for the entertainment of rich westerners. Admittedly you have to also ignore china and Russia, and everyone's a hypocrite. But you have to pick your battles

At least we've started our improvements in the right way(y) (new training facility, new ground coming along nicely and a good young squad of players) and all before any mega bucks come in. (If they do)
Something I will always be proud of.
