So why are we bothering?

It may be rare for a US city to make a profit from hosting an NFL team as they have to pay for a stadium / facilities and pay their players. But we are different. Mainly as we already have a stadium to our own football team and we will not have to pay their players. The NFL games we host will be a bonus yielding additional revenue from match days, merchandise and increased advertising, even if we only get a share of it.
I really don’t see the double header thing as viable purely on a logistical basis. Having 61k spurs fans leaving as 61k NFL fans are arriving how on earth would that work.

If its a double header, say football game from 15:00 - 17:00. And US Football game from 19:00 - 22:30, some fans will attend both games. I'd imagine Levy would be more than happy for them to spend some cash on refreshments in our Michelin star restaurant, fromagerie or micro breweries.

We already are one of the best supported clubs over here. As far as I know we have more supporters club in the US than any other PL club :)

Sorry la yiddo. The source of us being the most supported club in america came from when nbc gained the rights. They did a questionaire for new fans on what team they would like to support. Vague preferences like , flamboyant or successful or in comparrison to american football teams. We came out top and some media jumped on it.

Never said we are the best supported! A few years ago in DC when we played the scouse you got a flavour for how many fans they had here compared to us.

Having lived here 15 years we are well supported though. Perhaps not the numbers of Liverpool/Man U/ Vermin/Chavs but more than anyone else.

If there was a way to do an actual headcount, I'd bet you'd see a pretty clear 1st tier of Man U and Liverpool and then we'd be neck and neck with Chelsea and Arsenal for the 3rd most supported. (wouldn't surprise me if we were alone in 3rd). Also wouldn't surprise me to see us as clear 2nd in a couple of years, based on the growth the supporters groups.

Expats maybe. But we have been a bit barren the last 25 years.

Sadly I think we're firmly in 5th. That's after being a supporters club chairman in two of the four largest cities here and seeing other supporters bases. We're absolutely bigger than City/Everton etc but think we're behind those 4.

As Baz says the last 25 years have not been kind.

Teams are not the roadblock to a London team - players are the roadblock. They do not want to be forced to live in England, and the travel issues for a London-based team would be problematic. The NFL can not put a team in London while the player union objects.

And, the more likely path to a team in London is to move an existing franchise - rather than have to bring on two new NFL teams to accommodate expansion (can't expand by just 1 team to keep schedules even).
i think players would rather be forced to live in London than forced to live in Jacksonville, or Cleveland, or Green Bay...

They can still live in the states the other 7 months they're not in season.

But I think the timing of the US market expansion and our improved play (and style of play) has played a huge part in our growth. I'm comfortable in saying that our supporters base here in Austin is larger than all except Man U and Liverpool (and we are right with them). We have exploded over the last 2 years.

That's true, even here in Houston we've gone from having no supporters club in 2013 to getting 50 / 60 regularly in at Bar Munich, more for the NLD. If you're generally walking around town you'll see more of those 4's shirts than ours though. Them, Barca/RM and Bayern seem to be the ones I see most often sadly.

Sheep people, friggin SHEEP!!!!

Anyway...

You would think that - but its not the case.

London is a great city - and its nothing against London in particular - but its a different environment. It is an 8 hour flight from London to New York, let alone another 5 hours if they are going to the West Coast. Presumably, the NFL would work the schedule so its 2 weeks in the states, and 2 weeks in London to minimize the jet lag, but even then, you have to live out of hotels for 2 weeks, and teams have to find suitable practice facilities. Its really not ideal.

And, we have not even talked about the declining popularity of the NFL in the US - its still tops, but there are cracks in the foundation. NFL has to iron out those issues before it tackles the players on moving a club to London.

Might be why we have built the player lodge and had nfl teams training at our training ground?

I dunno, know little about nfl.

I still think it's the goal of the NFL to have a team relocated and based in London, and I think they'll get it (Jacksonville).

Plus a lot of those players have friends and family over here. Not everyone is cut out to up sticks and leave the country of their birth.

London and Jacksonville are like chalk and cheese. Very different lifestyles.
