They can’t control that though, they can do their best and make a huge effort but ultimately you can’t stop people leaving whenever they want to. I can’t imagine that the stadium operating licence hinges on something they have little control over.

Free beers all round would keep some of us at the ground post match, perhaps they could try that.

You're totally right, we can't control when people arrive and leave, but it could be a factor in when the police would prefer us to open the stadium for the first game. I thought we'd had some ITK on this, but maybe not? I'm quite confident that the stadium itself will be fine on day one, but I'm less confident about the transport links coping with all the extra people.

Won't the transport links be pretty much the same as when we were at WHL with both stations still undergoing refurbishments until a later date? If so I think it's inevitable that there will be delays but until the stations are both up to scratch I really can't see why anyone would think holding the first game on a weekend and our 2nd or 3rd game midweek etc would be different to just opening midweek.

Until the infrastructure is in place at both transport links the same issues will occur regardless of it being the inaugural game or not

It's certainly true that in the medium-long term Spurs want people at the stadium earlier, and to stay later, but I can promise you Levy and Co. don't give a monkeys about that at the moment. They'd snap your hand off tonight if you offered them everyone arriving at 2.45pm, being seated at 2.59pm, and being on the bus back home at 5.05pm. Extra beer sales are a concern for another day. Bigger fish to fry for now than frying fish.

I agree from a financial perspective which would be quite strong at the moment.

But, this is a premium, billion pound, multi-use stadium that I believe Levy would want a big opening for.
They'll want people turning up early to see a succession of Spurs legends. Some important person with Ledley and a giant pair of novelty scissors cutting a red ribbon to the West Stand and unveiling a plaque.
All the corporate back slapping with free champers for the box owners and potential stadium sponsors/NFL bigwigs etc whilst us little people get to see an hours pre-match 'entertainment'.

This is a significant event in Spur's current history and I don't think it will just open, they'll want a full day to milk it.

For me the transport links are what they are, station redevelopment will help but only to a certain extent. We need far more frequent trains, if the timetables remain as they were regardless of the size and facilities of a station it will be horribly congested.

In an ideal world yes, not sure now as staying away is costing millions. We can always have an official opening match later against an iconic club.

I've said this before but the transport links are significantly better than they were when I was a child and spurs used to have consistent attendances of over 50,000 - That was in the good old days of standing only and there were no problems with getting to and from the stadium.

Anyone got any idea how easy it will be to get tickets in the new stadium? I’m visiting from Aus in October and hoping to catch at least one game. Should I become a member or Will that not help? How much are tickets likely to go for on stub hub?

There was obviously a pile of research carried out on this. It's in the transport plan that accompanied the planning application and it is crucial to the management of local transport. I recall that there is also a requirement in the planning consent to monitor the effectiveness of this strategy after the stadium is open and report back to the planning authority, who could require changes if it doesn't work well enough.

There are going to be substantial improvements to the local bus services. People always forget the buses. The plan is that buses will carry a high proportion of fans out of the neighbourhood.

The crowd was dominated by people who lived locally in those days. You didn't have tens of thousands of people trying to bring cars in from Essex and Herts.

Like I said, I’m abroad from the 11th - 18th April so fa cup and champions league orderbof fixtures has suddenly become very meaningful
I'm away from 3rd-9th April so I actually want Brighton to go through :p

I do think we'll open against either Brighton or Huddersfield but there will still be home games coming thick and fast. It wont be long before everyone gets a first taste of the stadium. If we do progress in the CL I would rather my first game at the stadium be the CL than either of those 2 home league games anyway.

We could actually get a match scheduled for Saturday at 7:45pm which ends up being the opening game. In that scenario you would still have people leaving off as soon as the game is finished to catch the late trains back. Regardless of what day we play at the stadium the time is always going to affect whether people stay behind or not. I wouldn't even be surprised if anyone left the first home game early given some people seem to prioritise their travel over the football itself.

It's hard to say at this point but I can't imagine non members getting to one of the first games. You may find more joy going for a midweek game rather than a weekend one at least.

Become a member as you will get to buy a ticket before they go on general sale. Spurs plan to sell tickets internally once again and allow season ticket holders to pass on their tickets. So maybe check this site to see is anyone has a ticket they want to sell you through the club for a particular game

I'm wondering if Sky will move the West Ham game given that it could be the first derby at the new stadium. I'm hoping they move it to Sunday since I'll be in Leamington Spa Friday and Saturday and getting the train there and back will be a ball ache! TV fixture changes should be announced today anyway apparently.
