He worked on 43 spectacular things and a spect. It works out at 41 pence for the spect, since the eleven letters of spectacular cost £1 and spect is five letters. That works out at £43.41. Due to lack of loose change in the correct denominations he had to be given a 50 pence piece instead of 41 pennies. Therefore earning £43.50

If spectacular is z and £1 is y:

ZxY=43.5

Y÷Z=0.909.. since Z contains 11 letters.

Z×43=43Y

Z×0.5=5.5 letters
can't use 0.5 letters so use 5.
0.909x5=41p
41p+£43= £43.41
Factor in the lack of pennies and it works out as £43.50

There.

Shouldn't you round down to £43.40?

Nope, because then they'd be paid less than they're owed. If you go to a shop that doesn't have the correct change, why should you accept change that is rounded down?

I was making a comment purely on the design of the new stand which looks great and individuality unlike the kss design for the new lane.

There are two different designs in that article.

According to the Anfield thread on Skyscrapercity, the first picture is an old render. The second is rumoured to be the most recent design.

I quite like it, actually. It's huge, traditional and somehow very Liverpool (interpret that any way you wish - cue stereotypes!).

There's also an elevation of the new main stand which gives an idea of how big it is by comparison to the old main stand (which, if I understand it correctly, will form part of the new stand). Old stand outlined in red:

Anyone seen the images for the development at anfield. Looks amazing compared tto what we are offered for our new stadium. Really hope populous complete an over haul of the design to provide us with a top class modern. Design

My impression is that Populous are working on an entirely new design.

And, yes, hopefully it will look better than KSS's (which is decent but not especially inspired or inspiring). I think Populous will be working to the same brief: 60K ish; maximise atmosphere; proximity of seats to pitch etc; single tier end - but possibly with the additional requirement of versatility for potential NFL games (which might require a sliding pitch).

Not sure whether you realise it but KSS are also the firm designing the redevelopment of Anfield. So if these renders are genuine, it's interesting that KSS have got it more right for Liverpool than they did for Spurs.

See the thing is we should be going the same way, back in the day the same companies use to do most of grounds in england which is why you see alot of stands the same.

Our ground should be an inspiration for the new stadium instead of going down the soulless route. We are english team and we should try to keep our heritage. Like the fact that the flag poles have been there for a hundred years and it was where the nazi flag was taken down by a fan in 1934 after uproar that is being played at the club with a large jewish support.

The old shelf is an amazing stand, having a newer version of the shelf would be amazing. The original design was similar to the Emirates the heritage was an afterthought and little details were later added like the clock and kop to make it more english but it was clear it was an afterthought imo.

Yes I did see that KSS are also the designer for liverpool, but what I didn't make clear in my previous post was in my opinion how right they have got the anfield design compared to that for spurs.

Well the good news, as I said, is that it seems as though we are going to get an entirely new design from Populous.

Of course, that's not to say that new design might not be worse!

I do hope we get a total redesign a modern interpretation of the lane would be nice and not a rehash of a standard bowl stadium tht could be anywhere. Have you any idea when the new plans will be made public.

No idea at all, I'm afraid.

It's not going to look much different. Otherwise we will have to go back for planning permission taking another few years,. Archway would win their case because we would not be building what we applied for. There will be some changes but don't expect a total redesign.

If some of the rumoured design changes are true (15 metres taller, sliding pitch), then it will be very different and will certainly require new planning consent!

Otherwise, if the new design is more or less the same height, footprint and capacity, then it could look very different aesthetically without there being the need for an overly long planning process. Could take a matter of just a few months, I'd have thought. Reason being that it has already been established by the planning committee that that site is suitable for a 55-60K football stadium.

This may sound like a silly question but where on earth would a sliding pitch actually slide to? It sounds like a nice idea but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to put a 110x70 meter piece of grass
