Does anyone know (roughly) what the final costs of this stadium are going to be?

I'm not sure if that figure would be correct. We spent (what?) £70m on the land we didn't own. That would leave £330m for the build.

Even selling the naming rights/houses and getting money from Sainsbury's that would leave us with a huge ammount of debt. I don't want to be in the position of Liverpool or Man Utd where they are struggling to pay the interest let alone the actual debt.

Relax.

We will lease the supermarket to Sainsburys, will lease the hotel to an equally well known name in that industry, both therefore generating long term revenues.

As for the stadium, the club are looking into it being "gifted" by a big company, who in return will get the naming rights. If that works, it'll pretty much be self financing.

Construction costs are lower now that before, so another plus. In addition, the club are looking at various different options with regards to seating, effectively like club wembley.

Our debt will increase, not just because of the stadium but also the new training facilities, but I doubt we'll get close to Liverpool or Man Yoo's levels.

Any idea of the completion date for the new training ground Mat? Looked on the official site but couldn't see any?

A quick google search says they wanted it completed in 2010, though I suspect it'll take longer. Reckon we'll be in during 2011.

There was a rumour at the ground today that the new stadium won't be completed until 2016. I hope that's wrong.

Completed in 2010? In one year from the first spade going into the ground to having something we can play in?? Might be a bit optimistic.

I'm inclined to believe it will be 2013/4 for the first game, 2014/5 stadium completely finished

That would put us in it in 2014 at the latest I suspect

Okay, I suspect the whole 2016 thing came from this (via skyscrapercity):

December 23 - Tottenham Hotspur are convinced they can persuade FIFA to choose their new ground over the Olympic stadium if England wins the right to stage the 2018 World Cup.

Spurs have not made any official comment since a three-man panel selected the 17 prospective stadiums for hosting 2018 games, with Tottenham’s new 56,000-capacity ground going head-to-head against the venue being built for the 2012 London Olympics.

If England are successful in December next year, FIFA will whittle down the shortlist to a maximum of 12 but Spurs believe they will have a far stronger case than the Olympic venue - especially if it remains primarily a track and field arena.

Wembley and The Emirates are the only London stadiums that seem certain host matches but Spurs, who aim to have their new ground under construction by the time FIFA makes the firm and final decision in 2013, are confident they will get the nod.

"Once the stadium is built, it will be impossible for FIFA to leave us out," said a high-ranking Spurs source.

"It will the best football stadium in Europe without a doubt.

"Both from a technical and environment point of view.

"We knew there was a possibility that we would not be chosen outright because we have not yet gone through planning and then we have the funding issues.

"But our detailed plans will blow FIFA away.

"We have no problem with the timing."

With a maximum of three London stadiums being allowed, Tottenham's case appears to rest on whether the Olympic arena (pictured) will remain at its 80,000 capacity or be reduced to 25,000 after the Games.

Spurs believe they can persuade FIFA that a pure football ground will be a far better option than a converted track and field venue.

"What are they going to do with it between 2012 and 2018?" the source told insideworldfootball.

"That's the issue.

"You can't operate an 80,000 stadium for half a decade.

"It's not viable.

"Besides it will have a running track round the outside.

"The expectation is that it's very unlikely FIFA would choose a running track-type stadium over a football-specific, state of the art stadium."

He rejected reports that the new Spurs ground, costing around £400 million and being constructed adjacent to White Hart Lane, might not be operational in time.

"We told the 2018 panel that we would be operational for a minimum three seasons before the World Cup comes to England.

"We aren't at all surprised that Arsenal's ground was in because the FA needs some stadiums that are built and ready for the bid book.

"But we will be the newest soccer-specific stadium in the country at the time of the World Cup.

"Can you imagine the reaction of the football family if FIFA goes for an athletics stadium over a state-of-the-art football ground?"

Good find MattyP
I was working on the basis that we will be playing there with three sides up and your highlighed line: "We told the 2018 panel that we would be operational for a minimum three seasons before the World Cup comes to England" rather than "would be completed" would fit that scenario.
I'm damn sure we'll get it if they come to England.

That has to be fake surely. Infact im sure it is, I dont think an official letter from the england manager would include a sentance beggining with And.

This hotel then... I'm guessing work on it won't start until well after the stadium is finished? Would be ideal for the likes of me travelling over and not having to prat about across London.

So blatantly fake, poor english, you'd have thought he'd have a secretary that could speak and write english. The letterhead contains no contact details and the logo is blocky in places and about 1mm from the top of the page.

Besides why would Fabio Capello be writing a letter on 'The FA Group' headed paper? The FA Group is the legal department of The FA and while it may be the correct department to deal with such matters a letter from the England manager who has nothing to do with The FA Group would surely be written on his own headed paper or 'The FA' headed paper, after all that is who he works for and represents. On all recent FA logo's the writing has appeared above the logo and not below, not sure why The FA Group would still be using this old style logo.
