Are you always negative?

I also agree that out of all the plans detailed today maybe half will make it at the end. Though they threw everything including the kitchen sink at it, so even half those things will still be marvelous.

Well that, and financing. How much will this cost and where will the money for it come from? The old scheme was in upwards of £400m was it? This one will easily cost about £600m, I imagine. There is no doubt that will have an effect on the footballing side of things over the next 5 or 6 years, as we're going to have mountains of debt to pay off once we get into the stadium.

You need to read Jasper's ITK (I think it was Jasper) stating that the sponsorship, naming rights etc should fund the whole project.

In other words we will be as near as damn it debt free when we move in.

That's probably overly optimistic, but if we can get even half of it funded from outside investment, that'll be a massive victory.

We'll be 3rd behind city when they expand to 65k apparently.

Liverpool also have some stuff in the works, as do Chelsea but either way, fuck them. Ours will be state of the art and will shit on all of their stadiums :)

We rule!

Not that it matters, but according to City's website...

Phases
  • Pre-Expansion: Consulting the fans and local community
Prior to planning permission being given, the Club spent nine months consulting with fans, local residents and other stakeholders at a free exhibition on the Etihad Campus. Following this, planning permission was granted in February 2014.
  • Phase 1: South Stand Expansion
Phase 1 began in March 2014 and has seen the South Stand grow by around 6,000 seats, increasing the stadium’s overall capacity to 54,000.
  • Phase 2: Pitch Side Expansion
As of June 2014, Phase 2 is underway. A further three rows of seats will be built pitch side, taking the Etihad Stadium’s total capacity to more than 55,000. Both Phases 1 and 2 are due to be completed in time for the start of the 2015/2016 Barclays Premier League season. This means in a year’s time will be able to welcome an additional 7,000 fans to our home games.
  • Phase 3: North Stand Expansion
The development of the North Stand is the intended final phase of the stadium’s expansion and planning permission has already been granted. If this phase is completed, there will be another 6,000 additional seats, taking the stadium’s capacity to approximately 61,000, making the Etihad the second largest stadium in the Premier League.
13,000 extra seats means we will be able to meet the growing demand of our fans for more £299 Seasoncards and as the waiting list for these tickets grows every day, we know all 13,000 seats will be a welcome addition to the Etihad.

So looks like we will be joint second biggest with City. I think Liverpool's current plans show an expansion to just under 59k.

That looks so much better!!!!

@Blake Griffin prefer?

definitely.

the outside is much improved, that silver metal ufo exterior was truly awful. the roof is much cleaner and sharper. the interior is improved, mainly because most of the "waviness" is gone. if i was nit-picking i'd say i'd rather the "kop" stand incorporated straight lines where it tapers off rather than waves though. i like the disjointedness of the inside, it gives it character rather than it all being perfectly symmetrical. it's definitely far more different to the original design than what @davidmatzdorf had me to believe was possible

Whats interesting is they have literally just changed the wording i've put in bold (under phase 3) from 'Over 60,000', so they are obviously aiming to stay ahead and will probably have a token number of extra seats to take that 'second largest' slot. Not that they'll fill it as easily as we will!

Wot, you gonna turn up at the stadium with a spanner..."wanna hand guys?!"

Nope,

I'll be talking to the Agencies about getting me on board with the main Contractor when it is awarded.

A job that big will have a huge amount of Staff, they'll be needing Agents, Sub Agents, Project Engineers, Planners and all manner of Staff.

I've never wanted to work on a project this much in my entire working life.

Also, let's give some props to the guy who said to Levy: "You know what, Daniel? It might be an idea not write "naming rights" in huge text on the roof of these photos..?"

Now that there is affordable housing back in the scheme, I feel the same way. They ought to have someone on board to do the specialist financial modelling, to advise on detailed design and to negotiate with affordable housing providers. I suppose they'll probably farm it out to one of the big central London property agents: Savills, Jones Lang Lasalle, etc. [sigh].

Don't take no for an answer David, I won't be. Where there's a will there's a way.

Just think of the ITK we'd get.

That's not really what he said though, he was saying that some of the stuff won't be record-breakers by the time it is built. I disagree that only half of the stuff will make it, they've had years and years of designing this and they wouldn't have done it if half of the things they added wouldn't make it because it would be a huge waste of time.

Does anyone know?

Who will own the stadium?

Who will own all the surrounding stuff (hotel, flats etc)

Does it belong to ENIC or THFC?

Err no.

The last stadium was expected to cost around £200m - £250m, the new is likely to be an extra £50m-£100m

The £400m was for the larger scheme including hotel, apartments and etc.
