In the bottom picture, what are those huge black holes/pits just behind the lowest tier?

That's the gap between the original stand and the temp Seating that is covering the running track. I assume they slide back to or into the main stand when in athletics mode. The 'black' isn't a hole or void, just the back facade of the temp seats otherwise you would see all the gubnings so - the angle makes it look like a hole. Might still be in their plans to cover the gap with a walkway of temporary boards (metal?)

I have no bloody idea how you know that, but thank you, Sam (y). One thing, though. You say: " The 'black' isn't a hole or void, just the back facade of the temp seats otherwise you would see all the gubnings so - the angle makes it look like a hole. ".

But if it isn't holes or voids, why are there multiple little metal bridges all the way round the things that aren't holes or pits?

It is a big hole, the permanent (wasted) seats are visible below from other angles. The black is the dressing around the temporary stand so it's not immediately apparent is effectively built out of scaffolding!

Thank you (y). Because of not wanting to talk about the West Ham stadium, I'm really not going to ask you exactly why the hell there needs to be loads of pits all the way round the stadium seating, and am definitely not going to suggest they really must be health hazards. :cautious::whistle:

Sorry @danielneeds , just joking with you :p

Camera 2 on OS now showing the 4 buildings to be moved/demolished

Rumoured that Levy will be sending a DVD of the demolition to English Heritage - with backing music 'Bye Bye baby (Baby Goodbye)' sung by Four Seasons, Bay City Rollers, Madonna and others )

The monitoring equipment might already be in place.

Warmington House is the one building that is going to be retained and not demolished, so I am interpreting this to mean that the monitors are being placed in Warmington House to ensure that it is not damaged in the course of the nearby demolition and construction - and to catch any damage early if any occurs.

That is correct. The Engineers Report also contains the following:

Below is a statement from the main contractor MACE regarding the temporary protection measures for Warmington House during the Phase 2 construction activities. “The following activities are to be undertaken both before and during the construction works being undertaken in the immediate vicinity of Warmington House a retained building located on Tottenham High Road.
  • Establish a structural monitoring scheme on the retained building using targets in specified locations and measure these at regular intervals during the construction phase to determine any movement within the permitted tolerances.
  • Set up a practical exclusion zone which will prohibit any construction activities occurring within close proximity of the building. At the pinch point on the south east corner special care is to be taken when installing the sheet piles and these piles will be pushed into the ground using a hydraulic ram piling system.
  • Sheet piling, capping beam construction and propping to be installed before excavation of the adjacent basement.”
