Nuno did exactly the same and struggled to revert back.

This isn't aimed at you at all, more in general. The amount of fans that say they want Frank as next manager and want attacking football, shows for me just how little fans watch football outside of Spurs.
Which is fair, but I’ve literally seen Frank’s Brentford play good football. This is the double edged sword I guess - if it works you don’t wanna change it.

My two criteria is just good man and attacking football - he’s definitely the former, I hope the latter. But I do fully get reservations.

We should tell Microsoft if they give us a billion dollar stadium sponsorship, we’ll let BingAI manage the team for two seasons.

Do you have a link to the article?

It's behind a subscription paywall being The Athletic, of course:

Having said that, The Athletic is the only journalism sub I have ever had, and I have to admit that I really do think it's worth the money for the price. The quality is so much higher than the printed press, it's actually genuinely objective, the app works perfectly, and the frequency of relevant/interesting articles is balanced really nicely - they don't churn out content just to create content, so you don't feel like you're constantly pressured to keep up.

I read articles when I'm at the gym between sets 2-3 times a week, or on the train, so it works perfectly for me.

I'd like Enrique. Him trying to get our team to play tika taka would at least be entertaining. We all know that unless changes are made at the very top we will just be in this endless cycle of a new manager every 2 years because Levy isn't giving them the tools they need.

My opinion on what Levy should do has been pretty set since about January:

- Fire Conte
- Fire Paratici (he’s done very well by all accounts on transfers, scouting set up and development squad signings, but the stuff looming over him in Italy and his clear preference for pragmatic coaches is my reason for getting rid)
- Throw the bag at Paul Barber to come and be the Head Of Football operations.
- Let Barber have complete control of all the football side and let him pick the new manager for the summer. Whoever he picks, I’ll be on board with as he seems, being a spurs fan himself, to get what we want in attacking football.

Will never happen in a million years, but I’d be over the moon with the above.

Levy in charge of commercial and stadium related activities.

Paul Barber as Football CEO.

Michael Edwards as Sporting Director.

Poch back as manager.

Absolute dream team who all fit the ethos of the club and have similar playing style beliefs.

He 100% plays great football and again we dont have the players for it but if I remember peps first season in the prem didnt he have the players squad to do it and even though they started like a house on fire they ended up finishing 3rd behind us. City perserved and now they have one of the best teams on the planet. Would we be so accomodating. 2 bad results we will be on his back
Not true and even if it were what is your point because if you're against us hiring a manager who wants to play the type of football we want to see because some of our fans possibly might lose patience then what shall we just not bother at all and fold as a club?

Sorry but I don't get this mentality, stop worrying about that kind of thing, we just need to get a good manager in who is a good fit for the style of play and project we want to build, back them as best we can with the players they need and then ride out any bumps in the road and see how it goes.

Poch's first season wasn't plain sailing and sure there was some fan frustration and he probably wasn't far off getting the sack BUT the atmosphere even at the lowest point was NEVER anywhere near as bad as it has been under Jose, Nuno and Conte because Poch was trying to play a high pressing possession creative attacking brave style and we could all see that and he was also a positive likeable character so we all together rode out the mini storm and the rest is history, 3-4 our the best most enjoyable seasons probably ever for our club.

Lets get the right manager in and then see how it goes.

Conte may have already been sacked, we just haven't announced it yet.

I mean... he's not (to my knowledge?) taken a training session all week, while being employed by the club. I'm not sure – whatever you may think of the situation – there's any way back.

De Zerbi would be a cool appointment (to keep this post in the right thread :cautious:)

That makes too much sense for us to actually do it.

Isn't Edwards at real madrid?

And have all been at Spurs previously. A nice "what if". Although Levy would never section the type of spending Liverpool did. He would rather have 5 mediocre defenders then 1 top class one for the same amount.

Out of those linked:

Managers that are unattached: Poch, Tuchel, Enrique, Gallardo

Managers that are under contract: De Zerbi, Glasner, Slott, Marco Silva, Thomas Frank, Conceicao, Postecoglou, Rodgers, Kompany, Amorim

Certainly some on the second list that are great potential project managers and worth getting, but with the manager choice being such a crapshoot and dependent on so many other factors, what can the managers that are under contract (potentially tougher to get) offer that the ones that unattached can't?

If you want long-term: go with Poch or take a risk on Gallardo. Short-term with long-term potential (if things go right) roll with Enrique. And if you want to see if you can squeeze a trophy out of the current squad (which the board has thought they could do the past 4 seasons) then go with Tuchel.

If you get lucky after the next manager fails, one of the names on the second list will be out of work by then 🤣😂

I’m not sure if that’s true now. We spent £60m on a back up forward last summer and £40m on a 3rd RWB in January!

I'm trying to recall whether Barber left under a cloud or if it was just a case of being given the opportunity to have more control at Brighton and that was his main reason for going. I'm pretty sure it was the latter. I'm hoping that's it and that if he is a Spurs fan then being given the chance to come back and run this club, from a football perspective, would still appeal to him. Brighton are one of the best run clubs around and that's largely down to him.

Bring over De Zerbi, Evan Ferguson and off we gooooo. (sorry Brighton)

I know no-one's really serious, but why does Barber as CEO keep getting brought up? It's never gonna happen and just a kind of a pointless thing to talk about. We've got as much chance of signing Mbappe.

Feel like people have a slightly misleading view of Enrique here. He has played good football before in club football but with Spain the tika taka you speak of was of the painfully dull, sterile variety a lot of the time. Furthermore he showed massive bias towards certain (Barca) players and played Rodri at CB and an 82 year old Busquets in midfield. Get the impression he isn't that popular in Spain. Also fell out with some of Barca's big names early on in his spell there.

He was hugely successful at Barca ultimately and played some excellent stuff, but they did have Messi, Neymar and Suarez to help things along. But we're Spurs and we'd obviously see the Spain version of Enrique.

Not really as he was on the board previously and is a spurs fan. We have no chance of signing mbappe but clearly greater chance of barber coming in if levy is made to relinquish his role.

I mean sure, but it's like 0.001% chance vs a 0.1%. Don't think Levy's going anywhere soon despite the wishes of the fan base, and fantasising about Barber has no relevance to our next manager choice.

When Juande Ramos was here doing his two points from 8 games trick I emailed Paul Barber and advised them not to sack him, saying how I thought he'd come good and patience was required.

He send me a nice reply saying everyone was behind Juande and they'd take my thoughts on board.

He was sacked two days later…..

Top bloke though.
